lurcher330 2,301
what way do you go about getting permission i find the best way to break the ice is asking for permission for ferreting first then work your way up to the rest, when i approch a land owner i ask about doing a bit of ferreting and show my country side alliance member ship card and if it is given then i ask about bring the whippets along with me because here in Ireland lurcher folk seem to have a bad name due to a certain minority of a certain community giving us a bad name using lurchers as an excuse to be on the land and then when i get going a bit i do my best to get talking to the owner as much as possible and tell them what other activity i do with my dogs and how good they can be at fox and any other vermin control and if they are interested then you get your lamping and digging permission and then come christmas i always drop in with maybe a bottle of Paddy or teachers just to keep them sweet and to say thanks for providing with my much loved past time but sometimes it doe'nt always work and you are still told no so just wondering what other method may work on these other reluctant land owners YIS Lurcher330 1 Quote Link to post
dogs and quarry 40
sounds pretty flawless to me, I guess the folk saying no either already have someone working the land or just don't want anyone working it. good luck with getting more permission though mate. Quote Link to post
Born Hunter 17,832
Ferreting and mixing in the shooting scene, be it beating or keepering. Personally I find keepers a bit hit and miss, they love ya ferreting but can be a bit funny about lamping, but the contacts they have with local farmers means word gets around FAST often leading onto farmers with no birds that are more willing to let you lamp. My lamping partner also gets a hell of alot of varied permission through hunting, with his family being in hunt service he knows all the land owners. Hes a bloody diamond and my season would be alot poorer without him! Quote Link to post
