B.P.R 2,798
I've got a whippet pup here, 14 weeks on friday. Just been checking her over and seen that she has 4 teeth missing. The 4 front ones. The bottom 2 seem to have been missing a wee while as the holes are almost closed up but the top two relatively recent. Rang the vets and they said not to worry as she is due to start to lose them soon but may have had them pulled with her playing tug with the lab. Just looking for anybody with a bit of experience to tell me if this is indeed ok as some vets can talk shite. Cheers. Lee Quote Link to post

B.P.R 2,798
Cheers for the replies. Don't mind paying out money for the welfare of the dog. Just wanted people who have experienced this rather than the young vet on the phone who was probably reading what she said out of a book. Innit Quote Link to post
fcuktheban 140
Just make sure there aren't any broken pieces left in the pups gums and they shouldn't have hard bones to chew on. Quote Link to post
fresh earth 47
dont worry about it mate her sisters are starting to fall out they fall out at different stages and if she has been chewing at anything hard it will encourage them to come out so wouldnt worry about it . Hows she coming on now iv just started walking her sister a bit more now i dont do much other than let them run around playing at this age regards kris Quote Link to post
skycat 6,173
Don't let pups play tug of war with bigger dogs: whilst it probably won't do any harm if they lose a few teeth early, broken or damaged teeth can affect the way the adult teeth come through, and they're the important ones. Also remember that if a pup does like playing a lot of tug of war games, too much can stop the adult teeth setting into the jaw properly, which they don't do until the pup is around 10 months old. People who enter terriers very young often find that they lose their adult teeth early if they're lugging a lot on prey/carcases before the teeth roots are properly set in the bone. B.P.R 2,798
She's just got rope toys to chew on. She's doing fantastic! More than happy with her. She's been doing loads, gamefairs, shows socialising. Had her with me ferreting a few times and shes really interested in the rabbits. Housetrained (unless it's raining) and walks to heel alongside the lab. Had her walking everywhere and she's looking really good. She's retrieving a rabbit skin dummy and she's off on the fields 6-7 days a week sometimes twice a day depending on work. I pit a pic up of her a couple of weeks ago but she's much bigger now. What height was the sire and dam? Her and the lab are inseparable now. Quote Link to post
fresh earth 47
sport on skycat i dont alow mine to play tug of war etc i tend not to let them play with toys around the other dogs all mine retrieve live to hand and i always teach them not to take quarry from each other as soon as one of mine lifts game the others return to there job as its no good following a dog round a field for a rabbit or the others being to busy playing tug of war to nail the next bolter .
