how the hell would you wire a broody hen up to the mains?

Not daft at all Rob, exactly the kind of thing i am on about....something not designed for the job, but does it anyway.

Although i do not have the foggiest what you are on about..camera, monitor ?? Does the baby monitor have a camera on it?

you leave a camera facing the cot and have a screen next to your bed so you can see and hear the baby....kind of like a mini cctv set up. The alarm is so that if the camera failed for whatever reason (fuse, power cut etc) you'd be able to go and sort out the problem. They're quite expensive though but you can get cheaper ones without a camera (just a microphone next to the baby and a speaker next to the bed, so you can hear if the baby cries, they're much cheaper and would still have the alarm on them so that'd be the best bet I reckon.

 @ Scot

Any idea what they are called please Rob, so i can do a search?

yes, it's an awfully complicated name for them....they're called baby monitors :D:laugh:

forgot to say, they have a thermometer on the camera aswell and the temperature is displayed on the screen, so if you had the camera actually in the incubator you could check the temperature aswell! sorted

:tongue2:

Iv'e done a quick search and it has made my brain hurt  Not sure at all what i am supposed to be looking for, there is so much diversity :icon_redface: Would i have to have a camera for it to work? Don't need the thermo.

One more question please Rob, (Sorry to be a pest) would the alarm still be audible with the volume turned right down, otherwise i'm not going to get much sleep :D

this is the type of thing you're after - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Leapfrog-211348-LED-300m-Range-Digital-Baby-Monitor-New-/220808811933?pt=UK_Baby_BabyMonitors_SM&hash=item33693b159d

only second hand one ideally so you don't have to pay out much.

you don't have to have the camera in with the chickens, you could have it anywhere in the house, even in the same room as the screen cos all you're using it for it to show when the power's gone.....you're not going to be checking that your chickens have gone to sleep are you? :tongue2::laugh:

noooo, the one I've sent you is one of the cheaper ones that just has the microphone so you can hear if the baby is crying, so if the power went the microphone would stop working and the speaker would start bleeping to let you know that the microphone wasn't working.

if you're using the monitor for the original purpose (i.e. checking your baby), then you would have either the camera or the microphone next to the baby, and either the screen or the speaker next to the bed. You're not monitoring a baby, so it doesn't matter where the microphone/camera is positioned as long as it's plugged in. So then, when the power goes off, the camera/microphone will go off, and the screen/speaker that you have with you will start bleeping to let you know that the power has died to the camera/microphone. Come on Moll, it's not rocket science :tongue2:

I'd imagine an alarm could be set up quite easy in the event of a power cut. I know of someplace where a generator kicks in when there is a power loss.

I wouldn't have thought that the bike repair kit would be waterproof, but its worth a try before you get somebody out.

I dont think i've helped at all there Moll.............sorry... :D

Surely to god people ride bikes in the rain :D

random!

I know you can definitely get your rubber seal replaced, and here's an alarm for power failure - http://www.ebay.co.u...=item51868e84c4

Rob, i looked into those, all reviews slated the decibels, said they are not as loud as advertised, not loud enough to wake you up

The tube is in the inside Moll not the outside....................silly billy... :D

Oh and Scot i very near pmsl there..........just had an image of Moll going to bed and having too guess when to set the alarm clock for a possible power cut............... :toast: That is one for the 'classic thread' mate..........
