Sirius 1,391
Flaked Maize really is a rubbish for dogs Dances, I would stick with more meat, bone and veg and if anything as a carb a hard baked wholemeal mixer biscuit.
Country Joe 1,411
For my Whippet Pup, he has three chicken wings for breakfast, then from Durham Animal Feeds, Minced Lamb, Chicken, and Beef, some lightly cooked Veg, he wont eat raw Veg, and occasional Lamb bones, SA50 Mineral Supplement, Seaweed powder, and two teaspoons of Cod Liver Oil a week, the Meat comes in pound packs, so he gets roughly a pound a day, I have complete in a bowl ad lib but he never touches it. I won a tub of Dorwest Keepers Mix natural conditioning supplement, but it has a really strong smell, and when added to food, he wont touch it. I suppose I should also be giving him Household scraps, but in our house, there never seems to be any.

Laughing dog is made by Fold hill, so terrier meal will roughly be the same but its in smaller pieces, east to mix.
iworkwhippets 12,717
Chicken carcasses, wings, lamb hearts, off cuts of red meat, all free from my butchers, fish, eggs shell n all, veggies, terrier mix, rabbit, my freezer is full of stuff, the brown bread i get from my local shop, out of date and reduced, bung it in the oven then mix in with their grub, i also get packs of mince from my butchers, rice pudding, bananas, they go mental for em, the list is endless, imagination is whats needed not complete shite, i feed my lot once a day, so they get a mixture of the above, bones keeps em busy, and good fer their teeth, flax seed oil in their grub once in a while, plenty of fresh water
skycat 6,174
To be honest I feed, or used to feed, a very small handful of Vitalin along with the meat, veg, carcases, bone etc. Dogs can digest and use cooked cereals, which is what flaked maize is. Raw or uncooked cereals are not possible for a dog to digest. I certainly wouldn't feed more than about one fifth of their feed as cereals: the majority is meat etc. Since Vitalin went bust I tend to use brown rice (more fibre than white rice), or wholemeal pasta, and occasionally dry wholemeal bread: its all just the bit of carbs the dog needs, and fibre as well so they don't get constipated with bone matter. sandymere 8,263
Want a simple carb? Oats, a good source of esialy digested carbs, fat and protein plus fibre, generaly good stuff as an addition to a mixed diet.
