Richie10 345
a dog is [bANNED TEXT] you make it that goes for all breeds. I don't think that is always true. Some dogs are always going to be aggressive towards other dogs no matter how much you socialise. Quote Link to post
clabby 14
when i had my bull x and her sister my bull x would scrap with my other dogs for no reason i rehomed one of the bull x's and she has calmed down not a hint of aggression apart from tearing open a mates jack russel when he attacked her. but she is grate with kids and adults and generally a lazy little cow till she sees her lead Quote Link to post

Casso 1,261
Lead aggression is a huge one with reactive dogs, when you think about it two dogs coming at one another straight face on,is a very aggressive gesture in the canine world and with no way of being able to express its self while on the lead ,if the two dogs had met off the lead ,they can express themselves through body language that their not a threat, the aggression would not arise Nervous aggression is also a big one ,a truly confidential dog doesn't need to express himself through aggression in a social setting, food and play items are different,, and a lot of lads will have bitchs in their kennel that dominate dogs ,small dogs that dominate big dogs, so that makes me believe that alot of aggression outside the home is coming from a nervous or fearful mindset ,not in every case because some dogs see fighting as a way of letting off steam but only because they have no other outlet for it and would be a lot easier to handle if allowed to express drive in some other form , i dont know what it is about black labs ,i've come across heaps of dogs that just cant get on with them, seem to bring out the worst in dogs,, Quote Link to post
skycat 6,173
I wonder if the way most people exercise their dogs also has something to do with it. With so many dogs around nowadays, dogs which are strangers to each other are forced to live in the same territory, meet continually under artificial conditions: i.e. attached to a lead, unable, as Casso says, to express themselves normally. I know that my pack feel very territorial about where we walk. They have been walking there longer than any other of the dogs we meet so they tend to see these dogs as intruders. I've gotten a handle on the situation now as my younger dogs have been brought up to know that they have to 'share' the territory with others. A lot of how dogs react to each other can also be due to how their owners are feeling and behaving. If the owner is chilled, OK about things, non confrontational in themselves, then very often the dogs are too. If the owner is puffing himself out by having a big, lunging dog on the end of the lead, then that can make things a lot worse. Quote Link to post
Sirius 1,391
Once you have been around dogs a 'while' and not 5 minutes you will realise that a dogs breed really has very little to do with aggressive behavior. Alwasy look at the owner and how they behave and how they allow their dogs to behave. Edited August 23, 2011 by Sirius Quote Link to post
