Guest dances
Was on another topic and someone said about dog aggression and then mentioned the fact that I keep bullxs. I may just be me but I've always found that bullxs are one of the softest and easiest breeds to work with. All the lurchers that I hvae seen and can only think of 3 that where or are dog aggressive. One was a collie x, one a beddy x and one was a bullx. Now to me that doesn't say the bullx or either of the other to are bad crosses just either naturally that way or they were bought up wrong. What's peoples opinions on this? Quote Link to post
maitland93 13
all the bull crosses a know of are soft as shit amd wont pick a fight even tho they seem very agressive on the game they run Quote Link to post

I seen it in most breeds but I've found that bull x seem to be at the top of list when other quarry is around, seen a few let go of quarry when retrieving and nail the other dog on the slip this you dont see in many other crosses in my opinion. but in my opinion they should be single handed anyway. but saying that I have a collie x who seems protective over her catch. but she only gets run single so not an issue to me Quote Link to post
chrisbullx 2,541
I wreckon if they brought up the right way and socialised from pups you won't have any problems and I work bullxs and wheatonxs,if they do show signs of aggression nip it in the bud while they young otherwise you will have problems!! 3 Turns 326
ALRIGHT MATE. I DONT THINK YOU CAN STEREOTYPE ANY PARTICULAR TYPE OF LURCHER OF BEING AN AGGRESSOR. OVER THE YEAR,S I HAVE HAD MANY TYPES OF LURCHERS AND IN MY OPINION THE MOST AGGRESSIVE ONE,S ARE THE MOST INTELIGENT ONE,S. IVE MOSTLY KEPT MALE LURCHER,S AND FEMALE TERRIER,S SO,S NOT TO HAVE CONFLICT IN MY KENNAL,S I HAVE HAD 3 STONEWALL KILLERS IN MY LIFE TIME WHICH WERE VERY OBEDIENT EACH RETIRED OF OLD AGE BUT WERE ALL SINGLE HANDED DOG,S THAT NEVER MISSED MUCH DUE TO BEING VERY INTELLEGENT. BUT IF /ANY DOG STOOD ON THERE TOE,S WOE BETIDE THEM/ THEY WERE VERY CLINICAL AND YOU ALWAY,S HAD TO BE VIGILANT WHEN PACK HUNTING OR VERY OCCASIONAL DOUBILING AND NONE OF WICH WERE BULL XS.. NONE OF MY DOG,S WOULD EVER START FIGHTS BUT THEY SURE COULD FINISH THEM ,SOMETIMES /FATALLY/. 1ST X B/COLLIE X GREW. 1ST X SALUKI X GREW 1ST X DEER/H X GREW THIS IS JUST MY OPINION ,AND I OWN A BULL X NOW AND HES NOT IN THE SAME LEAGUE AS THESE 3 IVE TALKED ABOUT BUT HE WORKS WELL SINGLE /HANDED Quote Link to post
Richie10 345
I always thought that socialising dogs would solve the problem but I have found that in maturity some dogs just turn aggressive towards other dogs. Quote Link to post
ianh 83
very interesting subject to me, i have a bullx and he's been the softest dog ive ever known, still is usually and is fine when retrieving game to me and my mate with his dog present, however if we play with a ball with them (actually worse with sticks) he becomes very possesive and it comes out as agression, my mates dog is smaller and a bit quicker but my lad is faster over distance, often if they both chase the same ball, the small dog gets to it just before mine but the bullx gets a bit aggressive and the small dog drops it and lets him have it, very strange as when they play fight the small dog seems to have the upper hand most of the time and mine displays no real agression when play fighting. it seems to of got worse in the last few months he's coming up to 2 now, gonna have to be careful with him i think. Guest dances
an interesting topic lads. one more for you all to think about - i have found there to be 4 types of aggression; - general just wanting to fight - protective over food - protective over game - dominating when running now these traits ive seen in dogs but apart from the dogs that are just fighters im yet to see a dog that has more than one of the bottom 3, could this show that its down to nurture (spelling?) and not nature? chimp 299
all dogs have the potential to be aggresive imo , look at your brothers black and white bullx for instance Quote Link to post
worldruler 58
some things I have noticed with my own dog (full staffy/irish staff) is that now at 2 years old he is starting to become aggressive with some other dogs but not all, and this is where it can get confusing, he is ok with labs but hates german sheps and collies, also ok with little dogs often ignoring them completely, he is also alot more agressive when he is on the leash, as a result the only dogs I can have him(totally carefree) around are my mates lurcher bitch and patterdale, everything else would have to be so closely monitored it would be a pain in the arse. Now this dog was brought up well and socialised as far as I could, its as if he has realised this summer what his potential is as far as being top dog around other dogs, never shown any aggression at all towards family and friends though which is great Quote Link to post

You can put the foundation down = sociallising as pups from 10 weeks old - ....., even training classes, which is a good thing helps them to mix . But some dogs hit 20 months - 2 years old, and will just try to start fighting, and not just bull breeds or there xs . My mate as colliex grey, and it is twat of a dog , it had a go at Bryn my dog twice before that was 18 months ago. But if they ever meet up( now) they would kill each other . I always try to keep my dogs as soft as i can, but if its in them to want scrap , you got keep on top of them always Quote Link to post
watchman 256
do you think it is likely to occur more often between siblings than with other dogs? Quote Link to post
