my lurcher loves it. I go to the river, chuck a ball in for her to fetch, then chuck it across the field a couple of times, then back in the water....and just keep doing that for about an hour, good way of giving her decent exercise when it's warm without her overheating.

I usually exercise them on the beach or by the river, especially in the summer, as above throw the ball in the water every third of fourth time and they can keep for longer rather than having to stop due to over heating. The swimming is low impact so good for rehabing minor injuries.

All my dogs swim, my bull loves it!! Had the lurcher pup in yesterday too, no fear great start..

No impact stress on joints like running plus there is never a chance of over heating or de hydration, imo probably the best/safest exercise a dog could get.

I walk the dog on the beach lots and she loves the water! Like said before can run for much longer due to not over heating in warm weather, also I figure the whole action of running in and out having to push through the water must be good exercise, was also once told that running on sand is very good exercise, like when you try running or walking on sand its bloody knackering, perticually on dry sand
