You need to bond with her to get her trust you can do this by doing some training, grooming, playing around with her spending alot of time with her take her every where you it will take time but its wroth it sounds to me that she not been out much around people or she been mistreated in the past good look and let us know how you getting on

Plenty of love and patience. Not all dogs do come round, my mums whippet doesn't like men....and nothing going to change that. Main thing is getting it ok with you and your family. How long have you owned it for?

I took a rescue terrier in and all it did for the first 2 weeks was hide in a little gap between the kitchen units, eventually it came up to me on its own accord and from that day things progressed slowly but good.

Lets face it, it acting like that around people for a reason (who knows what its been through). Like i said give it time, dont rush.....just be nice...plenty of walks...good routine...lots of little treats, its confidence should creap back.

I wouldn't make too much of a fuss of her at first, that can be a bit overwhelming, even though you are trying to be nice and kind, she might still see it as unwanted attention.

Try to have her around you in nice calm situations at first......i don't know your situation but something like pottering in the garden, watching tv, walks on the lead away from others, just you and her. Give her treats but not to many, try to get her to 'ask you' for them.

One thing i found which never fails to win over an aloof or even slightly aggressive dog is.......................... an armpit tickle believe it or not  gentle, slow, tickle there and you see their eyes go all sleepy

get her focused on some sort of play, tug items are ideal, start in the garden or some safe area with no disturbances, whens she hooked and will play at the drop of a hat,you have then formed a desire in her,the desire is something you can then work with, because you cant work with nervousness its untrainable,

but a desire can overcome fear,,so take that desire with you out in the form of the tug item, begin walking her in places with not too many folk, and when somebody appears, take out the tug item and start playing,

what you have done in that instance is create an association in the mutts mind of the appearance of a human with a good and positive feeling if she gets to play when a person appears,,

it wont take long and when someone appears she'll look to you to play with the item ,and how she see's people will have changed

best of luck

slow and easy would be my way and plenty of praise when showing no fear . you don't no what the dogs gone threw in the past, and have some treats that she likes so when meeting people they can try and give her one so it becomes a good thing when meeting new people, but nice and slow hope all goes well and keep us posted
