shaun v 3
They usually used on open ground, they are placed on runs and seats and around burrows. have the loop over the run approx 4 fingers above the ground , but if you have girlie hands use all fingers :11: Quote Link to post
pegandgun 52
(You no where near Shaun v).You use hoop snares exactly the same as pegged snares. You can use them in the rough or on open runs. You set them a minimum of 51/2" off the ground in the middle of the beat.Use 36-40" of 3mm galvey wire bent in a U shape. Not a tight U but an open U.Push each leg of the hoop a couple of inches each side of the rabbit beat.Set your snare from the side of the hoop and the bottom of the snare 51/2" off the ground in short grass. A 4 strand snare works very well in hoops because the hoop acts as a spring, the rabbit is usually killed very quickly like this! Quote Link to post
shaun v 3
).You use hoop snares exactly the same as pegged snares. You can use them in the rough or on open runs. You set them a minimum of 51/2" off the ground just said the same as me apart from the rough ground and i said 4 fingers which is just over 5 inches off the ground Quote Link to post
Guest The Big Fish
After watching the video coney catcher 2 some ten or so years back now, Glenn walters did a bit on hoop snaring on there, i tried this method and never realy went back to pegged snares, because the hoops were so efficient and almost everytime the rabbit was dead. Very quick to set too. Quote Link to post
pegandgun 52
Shaun, you said four fingers high.Ive got big hands and four fingers measures less than four inches. That is a load of bull shit off some one who doesnt have a clue what they are talking about. You also mensioned settins on or around seats, total rubbish. They arent designed to set around holes(you only get knocked snares) but are set on the runs leading from there holes! This kind of wrong advise to people who want to learn is wrong because people will go out and try what you have told them and get totaly disheartened. Quote Link to post
woodga 170
good method of taking rabbits in soft ground where a peg would fail and they are quick to set and are deadly when used correctly i have one or two myself as im sure has p&g :11: :11: just afew good hunting all woodga  Quote Link to post

shaun v 3
i used to do alot when i was a young kid and now i'm going to learn my lad to use them before he gets his first dog or ferret. Quote Link to post
pegandgun 52
7"1/2 X5"1/2 loop set 5"1/2 over the middle of the smallest beat you can find.Make sure your eye is cocked and you have a light tention in your snare and your lad will catch his fair share of rabbits with very few knocks.Good luck Shaun v!!!!!
