bullmastiff 615
Managed to get out with a friend last night for a few runs and Tess did really well, missing only a few Rabbits. I took the camcorder as usual but had forgotten to turn the intelligent autosensor thingy on so it struggled to focus in the fast moving lamp light. When I checked the cam this morning I've just got a load of blurry footage with a sound track of us calling the dogs on, dogs thundering past and Rabbits squealing! There were some really good runs with some great strikes that had been turned back towards us so would of been great video One of the few that came out ok, hopefully she'll learn if you enter cover after a rabbit to then follow it out again once flushed!!! lol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omQC1s1lbzE Also thought I'd share a funny incident we had with a rather lucky Red rabbit! Tess is inexperienced at them so as my friend called it in, we decided to slip both dogs. Slipped both dogs and for the first 50-60yds they were side by side heading in a direct line for the quarry , flipped the red filter out the way as my mates dog powered forward from Tess, she just hasn't got that extra gear that normal lurcher's have (but she is half mastiff so no surprise there!!) It still hadn't moved from it's position but as he struck at it, it neatly side stepped the dog leaving him to stretch out, Grab a mouthful of fresh air, then barrel roll along the short grass! Tess only a short way behind also struck at the now moving quarry but missed as it jinked to one side, leaving her doing a fine impression of a break dancer, floundering around trying to get her feet the right way up! What seemed like an age (but probably only a second or two!) and the dogs were up and quickly closing the gap and pushing it straight at us. Tyke hit it first again with a decent shoulder bite but when Tess thumped in so hard she pulled it out of his jaws and then tripped and let it go! he hit it again on the rear end bowling it over but just lost his grip as he rolled end over end, as it tried to stand Tess hit into it finally getting a half decent mouthful. My friends dog righted himself and snapped round for a bite of the red blur in front of him but managed to get Tess's head instead! Tess let go, and it ran straight across my feet and away into the hedge only 10-15yds away by now, so there we're stood with one lamp on the quarry heading through the hedge and one lamp still illuminating the confused dogs. Tess desperately looking around for the quarry that's mysteriously disappeared and Tyke wondering why the quarry tastes of dog! and to add insult to injury, I think by the smell of my feet, it pissed on me boots on the way past!!! I don't know who was laughing harder, us or the quarry! It was a cracking night out with some really good runs and good laughs along the way, cheers again Matt All the best, Quote Link to post
