hellyer189 93
hello all as some may have read in the past my dog has been a handful to say the least......now nothing i do seems to be working with his behavior, treats, lunge rope, playing, stern tellings off you name ive tried it all bar a shock collar.... its like he has a mind of his own even when just on a general walk he just cannot behave he is 2 years old and just wondering before i give up all hope and get a new dog is he past it...... is he to old to learn otherwise. im the type of guy where i dont liek to give up too easily but even this is beyond me......he is a 3/8 5/8 bull greyhound he is a keen worker its just his attitude any advice would be ideal do i stick it out or get a new dog? 1 Quote Link to post

Shazza 52
Sorry i don't recall other postsor what problems you have with him. Is he just slow to mature? Some dogs take a long time to grow up mentally even after they stopped growing physically. 1 Quote Link to post
hellyer189 93
just his recall seems like he is hard of hearing unless he hears his food bowl being filled, he also seems to be getting really boisterous with other dogs, attacking my terrier also done that twice this month for no reason, when we are out he hunts up which is more than irritating i havent had him from a pup iv had him about 7 months now, and he was showing progress then it stopped Quote Link to post

bird 9,861
well mate, at 2 years old you have let it slip. The damage is done mate, if it was me i would get rid and start again. y ou know where you gone wrong, this time if you get another dog learn from your mistakes, or dont bother.!! Quote Link to post
Bulldogman 55
Bulldogs dont mature mentally until 3 to 3 1/2 and even then will push you at every chance and go selectively deaf especially when hunting.... I would try a shock collar, i know a friend who has a daughter off mine used it to stop some serious doig aggression issues and she was over 2 when he decided to use it. No reoccuarrnces since so worth a shot.... Quote Link to post
snizle06 202
sounds like the dog is mad for work. shock collar works wonders for recall when used properly Quote Link to post

watchman 256
you say he a keen worker, perhaps thats what he needs and plenty of it,not just taken out on general walks Edited August 20, 2011 by watchman 1 Quote Link to post
PhilProp 51
Hi i used a shock colloar on mine as i had a dog just like yours he had a mind of his own n wudnt realli come back if he saw summit or just didnt want to in general he wudnt stock break and he was a burdon to take out so i used a shock collar but i think i only used it a hand full of times and lots of time n effort and loads of walking and work but the main thing i will say is mine only jus starting to calm down now and he is just over 2. It wasnt just outside he was a pain it was in the house too so i wudnt give up jus try the collar and i hope you all the best as if it works like mine he will be a joy to own and a pleasure to work with no restrictions to what he can catch. All the best Quote Link to post
