KittleRox 2,147
Got a whip pup myself the now a month younger than yours, had her out ferreting just a wee session this week and she has no clue what the score is, another 3 or 4 wee trips though and hopefully she, ll be striking them in the nets, its a big learning curve for a young dog who has no experience of what you want it to do, I always prefer entering a dog ferreting so it can grab them in the nets instead of lamping, in the pups head it has caught the rabbit, builds confidence Quote Link to post
whip x grey 276
its good she is chasing,,,its better than she didnt,,,,keep going this is the problem with whippet breeds ,,,they have to prove there metal,,,,,hence why i put up my 3/4 whippet x grey at stud,,,,,,,ended up with one off his pups,,,,caught her 1st 8 month,,,no question asked ,,shes caught 10 at ten month on walk ,,,no problems with her striking abbilitie her sire fought with a staffie attacking him when it comes to whippets as same as most breeds ,,,,know the parents show whippets are gettin breed from,,,but there abillites are unknown,,,,,but usally they turn out ok,,,,,same as ur 8month pup,,,,i dont know but u might have known parents and if they caught no question asked,,,,u wont have a problem,,,,,keep going ,,,nature will take its course 1 Quote Link to post
nat 8
I agree with KittleRox my whippet was similar enjoyed the chase but didn't seem to know that he was supposed to kill it. Took him ferreting after a few days and the taste for a rabbit next time we went out he new his job atb with the pup Nat Quote Link to post

Both Vixen and Sagar are 1/2 show bred and i would sooner breed from a show bred whippet than a non ped with no stamina and nothing between the ears. As for telling someone to keep at it working an 8 month old pup, shouldn't even be running at that age. Let it be a pup ffs. I don't start mine until there ready usually at least 10 months old and then it's only a couple of runs a night. Sagar the pup i'm bringing on now is 13 month old ans he's been running about 6 weeks and he's catching 12 a night regular. he would do more but thats enough at his age. All retreived live to hand. darbo 4,776
dont worry about it.one of the best dogs i have ever seen work would not pick up as a young dog. he came good in time. your pup is what it is a young pup. it is just lacking the confidence to put in a strike. it will happen just be patient. good luck with your pup.
