scothunter 12,609
deny it.technically they could prosecute if it was proven it was your dog. Quote Link to post

cyclops 0
Trap the cat in a cage trap and hand it in to the pound (once it's out and about)let the owners know. See if they love it as much as your dog. Had a similar thing happen when my mate and me were out with dogs.Ended up with woman cat owner throwing rocks at us(she was only wearing a leopard print dressing gown). We argued that her cat was not under control either. Cold Ethyl 63
only takes 2 statements hers and a neighbour for egsample to say your dog was seen ragging her cat if your dog does it in public they can argue your liable because your dog wasnt under control as it had slipped out of its collar. If you pay her vets bill then most of the time they wont prosecute in my experience if you dont well they could do you for dangerous dogs charge.Even offer to pay half the bill and see if that changes things at least then if it goes tits up you have tried to be reasonable as it would look.Hiding the dogs wont work cos it was probably the rspca at the door and they will go chap and ask around the street if you have dogs and if they say yes your f****d Quote Link to post
Country Joe 1,411
The cats only got a broken leg, i aint know cat lover but I guess the owner of the Cat would think a broken leg is serious I like to break my pups to cats if I can, and I don't own any, if there were a few about your neighbourhood, maybe you should make sure you have got a good non escape collar, keeps everybody sweet, I know cats don't get good publicity on this site, but imagine if a dog slipped a leash and worried a Dog, you would take it for granted to pay the Vet bill. cold ethyl is right I think you need to bite the bullet, pay the bill, and buy another collar. weasle 1,119
You will have to live with your neighbours after this is over,I would be seen to do the right thing if i were you.And next time make sure no one sees. Quote Link to post
Guest jt750
I think you'll have to bite the bullet mate. It's likely too late now anyway if you've had a knock on the door. But anyway go round and apologise profusely and explain what happened and you'll make sure it doesn't happen again. Offer to pay half the vet's fee as you are down on your luck. At the end of the day cat owners have no recourse as to what their animals do but as dog owners we have to be responsible not only for our dogs but our dogs actions and anything less than perfect behaviour from them can get us into trouble. I know its the age old thing ..dogs chase cats ..sometimes dogs get badly knacked by a cat ..other times our dogs maim or kill cats but there's nothing we can about that..it happens Quote Link to post
poacher3161 1,766
Pay the vet bill then that should be the end of it. Quote Link to post
Cold Ethyl 63
You said there your dog got out of its collar so (im not having a go btw) your in the wrong in the eyes of the law your dog wasnt under your control and if done for that the fine wont be nice and the cpourt appearance and all the rest of it.My dog killed a cat a few years back and i was horrified took it neighbours door and offered to compensate them ended up taking a homeless kitten up to them a few days later and a couple of bottles of wine they were really good and understanding and i felt awful. You start denying it and get caught out you then have something to hide in the eyes of the law and then you wont ever get peace at least if you bite the bullet and at least pay half you look reasonable and it is only fair tbh you would like it if she only broke your dogs leg would you?
