just my view but theres something missing from the dog if it dont hit cover, if you only have small fields then most things will be caught at or in the hedge.

There a diffrence between a reckless dog hitting cover, And a dogs thats good around cover IMHO. I love a dog too be good around cover both day and night hate seeing dogs pulling up 10/15yrds before t

Guessing you've never seen a proper bullx hit a hedge after something

I don't believe there's many, if any that will hit the cover with the grit and determination of a bullx

That comment is shite, ive had both dhx and wheatonx hit cover as hard and determined as any bullx.

dont get me wrong seen plenty of crosses hit cover but seen more bullxs do it night after night, and agree with you pre ban terms many a fox could be added with a dog willing to hit cover

What a fcuking stuiped thing to say,

Have you seen any other x's work eigther than bullxs..?

This was my point when i posted earlyer its great to have a dog thats great round cover both day an night, But theres a diffrence between a dog knowing what its doing a round cover and one thats just got tunnel vision on its quarry and will hit ANYTHING that will get injuryed more than it goes out,

If your impressed by your bullx's hitting cover with grit and determaination, Try getting out with an ex racer cause if your impressed with things hitting cover after quarry you'll have a liitle orgasam watching one if thats what tickles your fanny....

Too me i like something thats abit more hunting brain

Dont know about anyone eles but most of my catchs/Runs iv see 80% get caught at the last second on the hedge so it does help the catch rate

Hitting cover has it's ups and downs. I have a whippet here (oh no, not a bull x), who i pretty much only use daytime, and the land we hunt is very rough, lots of cover and obstacles. He will smash into anything after game. It has definatly increased his catch rate, he's often coming back out of the cover with what he was chasing in his gob, but at just shy of 18 months, he has been operated on under anesthetic twice, had more stitches than months on this earth, and still has not learnt. Lamped him a bit, and he is exactly the same, no reverse gear, which for a dog his size is a bit of a worry.

both my dog hit cover when on there quarry they both have bull in them but my dogs dam was a collie x and she hit cover just the same but with more thought she rarely got injured but her son has been stitched once and stapled up twice and hes only 3 all from running on into the cover. its a double edged sword it certainly does increase the catch rate but also the vets profits. the hunting brain talked about is great my old bitch would hunt rabbits up in clumps of grass, rushes etc point where they were then dive in an grab it, was great to watch and very energy efficient.
