mighty celt 996
There a diffrence between a reckless dog hitting cover, And a dogs thats good around cover IMHO. I love a dog too be good around cover both day and night hate seeing dogs pulling up 10/15yrds before the hedge. Dont know about anyone eles but most of my catchs/Runs iv see % get caught at the last second on the hedge so it does help the catch rate at the moment most of my pups catches have been from rabbits hitting the fence and bouncing back out or going into cover then running back out. no idea hwy they do that as they were safe till they decided to come back out. they tend 2 do that mate as there lost the dog is after pushing the rabbit away from its normal escape route and they jusy get confuesed over there where abouts. Simoman 110
Always like to see my dogs hit cover, can be a little arse nipping at times but my catch rate would drop if they didn't and i think its shows drive and commitment......... Quote Link to post

Penda 3,341
i dont mind dogs hitting cover and i have to agree that it does knock up the catch rate it also shows the drive in the dog,i ahd a dog that ive retired now but he used to hit the cover alot but after 1 to many bangs he threw the towl in on taking the plunge through the hedge Quote Link to post

fcuktheban 140
It also depends on where your at, sometimes the rabbits are smart to the lamp and stay near the hedges. Quote Link to post
scent 509
i wouldn keep a dog that didnt hit the cover ,no good to me for the type of hunting i do Quote Link to post
stabba 10,745
I,d say a cover buster is essential in a daytime dog..be pretty much useless otherwise imo...As regards lamping dogs hitting cover ive got no preference one way or the other..they either do or they dont..Very close on quarry then i expect alot do...a good distance behind it then i cant see why they would..jmo..atb stabba Quote Link to post
morton 5,368
I prefer a dog to run canny around hedgerows,id rather let something run another day, than risk an unecessary and avoidable injury,a clever dog that pulls up will put more in the bag in its working lifetime than a dog carrying unecessary knocks and strains. lilpip1234 62
some of the places i run its essential for a dog to hit cover otherwise you might aswell stayed at home. any off the lads that have been out with my dog will vouch for his gamness and willingness through cover Quote Link to post
artic 595
It's natural instinct in the individual dog. Some will some wont. Does it depend on the drive in the dog? I cringe at times when they commit and everything is crossed Quote Link to post
jf1970 328
One of my favourite attributes to lurchers with bull in them. That and the commitment they do it with  what has bull in it got to do with anything. Quote Link to post
Guest dances
Guessing you've never seen a proper bullx hit a hedge after something 1 Quote Link to post
