lilpip1234 62
Whats your views on dogs hitting cover after quarry, personally i like my dogs to do so think it increases catch rate but hearts always in my mouth the way my old dog hits cover and last week he came a cropper with a piece of metal tucked away in the hedgerow coming up six this january first serious knock due to hitting cover this is the injury before being patched up. bigstu2008 9
yeah it happens, if you work your dogs its gonna happen at some point hitting cover or not. this was my oldest dog a few year ago, hit some low barb wire that was overgrown and cut above his eye. few staples and healed in no time. Rabbiting man 1,191
I was mooching today with a very good mate my jack russell bolted a rabbit from cover right in front of 10 month old lurcher the rabbit ran in the next bit of cover my lurcher was on it any way he hit the cover so hard and court the rabbit if he carries on doing that I be a happy man but with working dogs an injury will happen from time to time Quote Link to post

Tiny 7 1,694
There a diffrence between a reckless dog hitting cover, And a dogs thats good around cover IMHO. I love a dog too be good around cover both day and night hate seeing dogs pulling up 10/15yrds before the hedge. Dont know about anyone eles but most of my catchs/Runs iv see % get caught at the last second on the hedge so it does help the catch rate 1 Quote Link to post
ferret-boy 44
Yes i prefer my dog to run into cover,, There's always a chance your dog is going to get injured,, But its a chance you take,, Quote Link to post
Guest dances
One of my favourite attributes to lurchers with bull in them. That and the commitment they do it with Quote Link to post
paulus 26
just my view but theres something missing from the dog if it dont hit cover, if you only have small fields then most things will be caught at or in the hedge. 2 Quote Link to post
