Squirrel_Basher 17,100 Posted March 10, 2007 Report Share Posted March 10, 2007 A phone call from an anxious farmer dragged me away from rat shooting to have a look around a small holding for a fox thought to have killed 4 lambs on friday evening .Turned up to see the farmer who had already been round with the shotgun squeaking?Hed seen a fox in the lambing yard but it wasnt about to sit still for him and ran to the neighbours fields .The neighbour kindly allowed me to look around 2 fields and have a squeak .Where I expected a fox to come from was downwind but any other backstop was a bit dodgey so with the wind it hed to be .Nothing to my voice so I used the hare distress call bought in the USA.A fox appeared and without hesitation ran into the wind directly towards me .I had the bipod set before I saw anything so it was only a matter of lining him up in the scope.He stopped at a reasonable range but another short call saw him at roughly 80yds.Sqeezed off a shot and down it went .Another pair of eyes appeared to my left so I called softly .The farmer ,who had been watching from his land ,shouted "YES "and of course fox number 2 was on his toes .The farmer was adament the one I had was the one he saw and so was happy to say the least !Went back to my rat shooting but found the barn light on and no rats !. v-max 2 Posted March 10, 2007 Report Share Posted March 10, 2007 Hello great stuff iv got a farm that start's april 1st & there's alway's a fox at them.I love the early morning foxing you see them in another world & get to try & stalk them.Foxing is my number 1 thing day/night but i hold them very high in respect & to get a shot is great satisfaction.Im looking forward this year with my newish lieca geovid's so i know the range now in metre's.I might even get a den to sit at that can be fun sitting out the hill alnight at a den. What do you think of that amber filter now ............it certainly does the job eh............. We also got called out last night to sort out a lambkiller ................. flicked lamp on in lambing field and spotted a fox straight away sniffing around a couple of ewes with new born lambs. It was walking away from us so I gave it a tiny squeal with my lips only to stop it but it turned and sreamed in straight at us. It had to go through some gorse to get to us so as it disappeared i told my mate to be ready with the rifle because as soon as it appeared it would be practically on top of us.As predicted it appeared directly in front of us and was running full pelt towards us, I gave a loud shout to stop it in its tracks ...............my mate quickly taking its head off Never saw any more foxes but got a phone call this morning from another mate out stalking the ground , who flushed 2 foxes from a young plantation , shooting another vixen which was pregnant with 6 cubs.
