marshman 7,758
Had to laugh today, the missus came back from a trip to London. Anyway while walking through one of the big stores she saw some border pups for sale . The price was £1,400 a pup!! Quote Link to post
ginga john 268
So you now have two border pups then what you going to call them ? Quote Link to post
Guest dee mac
that is very sad indeed and then the breeders and so called working men who sell border pups for 3oo 4oo and 500 pounds say they have the best interests and working ability at heart makes me fcuking sick if truth be told cause now every twat in country has one and they dont give a jot for working ability the good old border will be resighed too history very soon im afraid Quote Link to post

marshman 7,758
It's a shame to see a working dog being turned into a expensive lap dog! Ginja John you're mate that you will be digging with this season probably want one lol!! Quote Link to post
dave mac 58
if they want to charge high price.s let them.un like the lads that work them, they will never know the feeling of digging to your own border dog,i would say most of the lads that work there borders are not in it for money, most show people and pedlers are,how sad that they will never know the true character of breed. obi2 239
They are still a hard working breed and like any other terrier breed if brought up correctly and entered properly there as good as anything out there. Check the gun dog section, springers and spaniels going for £450 £500 and noone gives it a second thought. If there from good working parents that are constantly doing the job and the price is £450 I will pay it and give it a working home. Everybody wants to pay less for something. If there bred and worked within your hunting group then Obviously it's going to be a lot cheaper or even pups given for free to mates. Il always work and have them whatever the price as I can't see past them and can't put a price on a well bred worker in my opinion. Quote Link to post
obi2 239
I draw the line at £1400 though haha Quote Link to post

fat man 4,741
There priceing the border beyond the working mans reach, unless your in a circle of lads that keep and work them.I remember years ago a few lads from cobh in cork kept a very good working strain of border. Now we happened to be having a few pints with them after the game fair in adare manor and got chatting about borders,Tom the man i was talking to took me out to his van and showed me 3 border bitches, all well worked, grandmother, daughter, granddaughter. Not the big chunky things you see at shows, proper workers. We met up with them at another show a couple of weeks later and we went home with 2 border pups,1 was about 8months and the other 7weeks.The lads charged us the price of a few pints in the pup after the show.1 bitch, the older 1 worked very well and entered very early but sadly picked up poison on my mates shoot and died, the 2nd was stolen.
