Malt 379
Doe's anybody know if ferrets suffer from cataracts as they get older? I've just noticed my 5 year old albino Jill has gone cloudy in one eye. I know albino eyes are more susceptible to damage, just wondering if anybody had any experience. She's not in any bother with it, and I've seen an ancient, blind hob ferret (10 years old) get about it's run at a garden centre with no problems, so I'm not overly worried by it. I can't see how it would affect her working ability either. Quote Link to post

ferret100 47
Cloudiness in an eye doesn't always mean a cataract. Might be worth getting it checked out. It could be due to trauma, nutrition, infection etc. Might be easily curable. Cataracts tend to affect both eyes over time. Edited to say, yes ferrets can get cataracts as they age. andy s410c 61
My first poley hob(circa1987) had cataracts in both eyes, he lived till his early teens...took a good while before his sight went as far as i can remember...he was still very active & got around fine. Quote Link to post
