bird 10,013
well any rabbit i feed to my dogs, as been skinned+ froze for 6 weeks before. So when de frosted, its just like norm food to them even though they have 1/2 rabbit each raw+carcass . Dont get prob with dogs running off with rabbits, only when young dogs learning the game you might get it.! Quote Link to post

Simoman 110
I occasionally "chuck" in whole rabbits for the dogs to eat, i just ensure im upto date with my worming schedule, its never affected my dogs retreiving them whilst hunting though Quote Link to post
Moll. 1,770
Mine may be weird but i found...my first dogs, who were never fed on whole rabbit would run away and eat them (when they first started to catch) as they progressed they stopped doing it, only ever did it through the day, never at night. Dogs since then i have fed on whole rabbit, skin, guts an all, never had one of them do it yet? Quote Link to post
Bogger 243
thats because they,ve got to catch them first simo Quote Link to post

stabba 10,745
Young dogs its best to give them skinned rabbits...as they get older and with plenty more kills under their belt then graduate onto whole carcasses..fur on the job lot...keep up with the worming and they,ll be fine...never feed just rabbit on its own for any great length of time because rabbit alone lacks certain vitamins a dog needs...Case in point ..i iknow its a little off track but its a fact..in the early 1900,s fur trappers in america were dying at an alarming rate...turns out they were living off just rabbit and never recieved the other vital vitamins they needed ..hence a slow and painful death...here endeth the lesson lol lol..atb stabba Quote Link to post
leegreen 2,221
I feed my dogs plenty rabbit, never had a problem retrieving. Only have problems when I go out with other peoples unruly dogs, the occasional boot when the owners are not looking sorts it out . Quote Link to post
leegreen 2,221
"Rabbit Starvation" Stabba. It's a form of malnutrition, lack of fat, carbs, vitamins etc. Quote Link to post
