mynirvana 1
what is it that makes chicken better than other meats in some peoples view?
BULLDOUG 199
Would suit the dog better to feed the dry in a seperate meal as the two digest at different times and play havoc with the digestive sytem, a poor digestive sytem a poor everything YIS D
BULLDOUG 199
what is it that makes chicken better than other meats in some peoples view? For me chook is high protein low fat, this is why IMO the wings are perfect for fat to bone ratio When the real work comes i feed red meat horse / venison high in natuiral creatine etc
Gaz_1989 9,539
As above, lamb fat is great. Breast of lamb is a good meal. Tripe seems to go down well with most dogs too.
Mac 30
Chicken on its own is one of the "leanest" meats available , to add weight to a dog or maintain his weight is to up the caloric intake. Feed more or feed often, not just meat but a collection of other required nutrients that a dog needs to thrive and maintain weight. Fats being the most essential source of energy that a dog requires, up the feed amounts along with high calorie foods that will sustain a working dog and will retain the loss of weight and condition. skycat 6,173
Everyone's talking about the type of food to put into this dog, but no one has addressed the issue of being a picky eater. Some dogs are very funny about where they eat their food. Some don't like to be watched or be near other dogs or even people when they are eating. Where and how are you feeding the dog? On its own? In sight of other dogs? A normal, unstressed dog will wolf its food down quickly, but a dog which is worried by other dogs, even if they can't get to it, might actually not dare eat properly. Also, how old is the dog? Quite a few dogs can't put on weight whilst they are still growing, all their food is being used up in growing the body, and it is not until they mature that they start to fill out. Also, and I can't remember how many times I have said this, or similar, is the dog crapping OK? Does it do firm stools or is it sloppy? If the stools are not solid then that could indicate an intolerance to something in the food, and some dogs are intolerant to the various additives they put in manufactured dog food, or the soya, beet pulp or cereals. Cold Ethyl 63
I had a saluki x who ate very little and struggled to keep weight on and vet gave him vitamin b and he ate like a horse.Used it on a few dogs since and i find they eat very well when you use it its cheap as chips from any chemist
sandymere 8,263
Fat has double the calories of either carbs or protein so adding extra fat will have a bigger effect, ie as already said fatty meats like breast of lamb and adding in a little vegetable oil to the dried will increase the calories and make the meal more appetising thus the dog may eat a little more. PS wormed recently?
