Rolfe 2
Had a sort of "Busmans Holiday" yesterday when one of the most rabbit damaged fields on one of the farms i do the pest control on was being harvested. The long narrow field runs along side a busy railway line so safety was of paramount importance so the dogs were out of the question. I decided to run 175 yards of long netting alongside the railway track side of the field as this was where all the rabbits would make for. I stood in the middle of the net run with the shotgun as from past experience the last cut produces a lot of bunnies and not being as nimble as i once was........would struggle to cover the whole 175 yards of netting should a lot hit at once. Even the best laid plans often have a habit of not going the way you planned and this one was no exception. It all started well, a couple of rabbits i bowled over with the gun then they started hitting the nets..........getting to the first netted rabbit my heart sank..MIXY..! the next rabbit was the same.........and the next..........and the next....! The field i had high expectations of only produced a dozen rabbits when i would have expected treble that number........only four clean rabbits from the lot........couple of them were "Gingers".....quite common in these parts but all in all a disappointing afternoons work. Oh well...........we'll try again next year.....! Quote Link to post
