redpat1 225
I just went out for a mooch with the Springer and Lurcher pup and the pup followed my springer in to cover. The spaniel comes out no problem but the lurcher has come out squealing like a stuffed pig, I have run to her and realised she was covered in drowsy wasps!!! I managed to brush them off, at least seven or eight that I could see all over her apart from the neck and head. I took em straight home and the lurcher is pretty subdued and keeps yelping randomly. I have brushed her down and given her a thorough inspection and cant find anymore stings, though she seems to be concentrating on her front upper leg. What are the dangers to look out for or am I just being a fuss-pot? All sensible comments and advice welcome. Thanks Pat Quote Link to post

Thanks Pat I would have thought if it was going to have a bad reaction it would have done by now. Check tongue isn't swollen? I'd give it a thorough check to make sure there are no stings still in there, and give it a bath maybe? poor bugger! Quote Link to post
riohog 5,750
give the pup 1/2 a antihystamine tab Quote Link to post
skycat 6,174
Give an adult lurcher one Piriton: its an antihistamine for humans and will help to reduce the reaction and inflammation. I always carry Piriton with me since I nearly lost a couple of terriers from wasp stings a few years ago: now until autumn is the worst time for wasps, and even one sting can kill a dog if it is susceptible. Shazza 52
You can also rub some vinegar on the part she's fussing about, i know it don't smell great but it really takes the sting away (works on humans too). Allergic reactions happen pretty quick, a friends dog got stung on the neck by a wasp and was dead in her arms in under 4 minutes Quote Link to post

redpat1 225
ok, so I have given her some piriton liquid, a lot of attention and she seems more settled now. She does have a fairly big swelling under her front left armpit which seems to have stopped now. I think she is just playing on it for a bit of fuss, yes, she is that sneaky! Thanks for the advice and comments, much appreciated. Quote Link to post
Ossie n Arch 1,682
My Tess got done on Friday, gave her a Piriton every day for the next 3 days. Soon worked and it made her more comfortable. Good stuff. Quote Link to post
