air gun ant 1,666
When I first got my Sgc I bought 250 RC sipe 32gm 6s and was doing ok with rabbits and pigeons I've now run out and went to buy some more. My friend was supposed to go halfs but never turned up and all I had was £45 with me, anyway I was gonna just get a few boxes to keep me going but the fella at the shop said for £45 I can have 250 OK 30gm 5s, I thought bargain!!! Thing is can't hit anything now? I got 1 pigeon for 21 shots last weekend and that was on the ground! I know a bad workman blames his tools but this is unbelievable! Has anybody else had experience with these cartridges, I think they are made by nobel? Thanks for your replys Atb ant Quote Link to post

SportingShooter 0
You might want to try patterning them to see how they perform. A sheet of cardboard or paper 1m x 1m with a dot dead centre at your common shooting distance. Was told once the technical distance that manufacturers use is 32 yards. Might show you the problem as if the pattern is useless, the shells are as are your chances of hitting much apart from thin air. Quote Link to post
HUnter_zero 58
It's surprising what patterning can show. A mate and I were waling back to the car after a spot of decoying. He had shot a good number of birds, where as I had missed a good number of birds. We had to cross over the old farm rubbish tip and as we did I thought it would be a grand idea to pattern my shotgun. We had purchased 500 Eley Realtree(?) in 12b, it was the first time we had tried these cartridges and we were both shooting with Spanish side by sides. At 20 yards my mates gun put a hole in some hard board, mine splattered shot in all directions, 30 yards showed a good controlled pattern with my mates, again mine was all over the shop. I had a couple of Black gold left over, so we tried the same experiment again and amazingly the opposite was found. John Quote Link to post
masmiffy 82
Only shoot 28g 7's for decoyed pigeon they do a good enough job for me! 1 Quote Link to post
Ratsmasher 36
it could be that the32s are a faster cart and so you are shooting in front Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
Only shoot 28g 7's for decoyed pigeon they do a good enough job for me! Agreed All I ever use. Quote Link to post
air gun ant 1,666
thanks for replies lads, i rarly get to decoy pigeon as its mainly dairy up hear, so im usually after crows hence 6s and 5s? Quote Link to post
masmiffy 82
Have shot loads of crows with the 28 7's as well. Use decoys to get em range and these will still knock em out of the sky no problem! Quote Link to post
chimp 299
eley first 28 7's all the way Edited August 16, 2011 by chimp Quote Link to post
air gun ant 1,666
Sounds like I could be trying to throw to much? Will try smaller shot, 7s? Do I go 28,30 or 32? How much difference does it really make? Thanks lads Ant Quote Link to post
masmiffy 82
Doubt your trying to 'throw too much' but if your fieldcraft is good and you can get em to decoy then 28g 7's are perfect. Kind on the shoulder and you can shoot em all day long! Its suprising just how far 30yds is!! Edited August 17, 2011 by masmiffy Quote Link to post
air gun ant 1,666
managed 2 crows and a magpie last night, after looking at the pattern it was all over! at 10 yards it was nearly 3ft across! so changed chokes to 3/4 and full and the birds started folding at the shot thanks for the advise, crap carts but at least i can get some use out of them. cheers chaps atb ant Quote Link to post
