Any ideas on this ??

Right , my dogs a house dog . A pet , not a working dog , but she has just developed a slight problem . For the last couple of days she`s has small lumps apppear on her . Now we`ve tried everything we can think of , new bedding , bathed her , disinfected everthing she has , the lot . They look worse because they make the hair around them stand up , but she`s still 100% , not off her food , same temprement , just looks different . It started friday morning , and she has it still tonight . They do seem to come and go though , when shes been up all day and `around` they fade away , but seem worse when shes been lying in her bed ( like i say all new ) any ideas as we`re thinking allergy . But nothing has changed that we can think of . Cheers Buster

Try half a piriton tab (childrens dose) , sounds like an allergy alright.

Going to give her some benadryl , a small does . They are mostly on her back / legs . None on her belly , few on her head .

hmm, personally I wouldn't give them drugs that are designed for humans but that's just me.

Five yr old Stealth . Never had anything with her before , just a strange one ...........

hmm, personally I wouldn't give them drugs that are designed for humans but that's just me.

As said try an antihistamine but a low dose.

 

Rob, you would be surprised at the ammount of " human " drugs that are suitable for treating dog ailments. Most vets will reluctlanlty agree, they dont like telling you because they would rather you spend £25 + with them than popping down to the chemists.

I have given a Bull dog of mine antihistamine's some years back and seemed to do the trick, he was suffering from a skin allergy that he continued to scratch until it bled.

Sorry about the late reply mate, had folk round, the reason I asked the dogs age, our GS started to get lumps on its body at roughly the same age and I instantly thought the worst, the vet asked if I let him run through bushes, which I said I did, try stopping him I said, the vet then told me that dogs have grease glands that keep their coats water proofed, and that letting him run through bushes was the problem, said it damaged the grease glands which are just pores that let the oil out onto the coat, and if the dog damaged any pores they would more than likely heal over causing lumps because the oil couldn't escape so built up under the skin, the vet also said it was mainly soft coated dogs that suffered with this, he then showed me how to lance them, so what seemed like a major problem turned out to be an easy one to sort, your dog may have a hard coat, in which case this won't help, but some dogs are prone to it, some are not, hope this helps
