Chickens4ever05 22
first trip last week me and Nigel had a trip to some new permisson in the dales last saturday, all looked well and we were set for a good day. the Farmer pointed out a couple of places he wanted us to look at first the first was on a stepp banking with just 1 main set on. i entered to jills and the rabbits started bolting immediatly Tod and Fly worked well and we bagged 7 big rabbits from here and missed a couple but they will be there next time. we then headed up the other side of the fell were he said the main head of rabbits are. we ferreted a few set balting for the two whippets and they were also working the reeds. we seen a few very big rabbits which got a bit of exercise, Fly did very well on one and really stuck close but after about 3 or 4 turns its got away. whilst we were on the tops the weather changed and the rain came in very hard, the thunder and lightening started and was right above us, we were the highest point at this time and were soaked right though. We decided that with no sign of change we would call it a day and headed for home. Nigel managed one quick EOD shot we bagged 18 i think. Here`s an eod shot It was nice to have Tod out with me but his lack of outing this last couple of months well i have been consentrating on Flint showed behind the big one as he was shattered ;D he will be ready this season though Tom 2nd trip this week me and Nigel had a return trip to some new permission we had cut short last week. the plan was to head to the same spot we finished last week. when we got there the farmer had other ideas, the first set we looked at was in the farmer back garden, we entered the jill in to the single hole and unforchantly had a dig on our hands, just a foot under the lawn and the rabbit was in the bag. The farmer then shown us another set in the yard next to the silage pit, we nwtted it up and juste before we entered the ferret his wife can out saying she had just seen one go into the garden shed, we walked round and let Dodger in and he nailed to rabbites in there and the farmers wife was made up as they had been eatingbher veg ;D. we went back round and entered the farrets in to the original set we had netted we took 2 adult from here and the ferret killed in but showed so we picked her up. The farmer then asked us to follw him up to some other pasture which led on to a crag. there was alot of rabbit up here and when we got out of the car Dodger nailed a rabbit sat close to the edge. There are some real big set up here and some great reedy patches where on nice winter norings there will be plenty sat out. The farmer joined whilst we ferreted the first few sets, he was very impressed with the whippets proformance and left us to it. we continued on with the whippets working hard, the whippets were putting the rabbits up, carcking runs on some very big hard rabbits, the sport was out standing, there was two runs by fly & Dodger which were cracking, the first was a rabbit was a rabbit out of a deep gully the rabbit boted instantly and the whippets were hot on its scut and holing tight, this little sod just kept 180degree turns and really worked the dogs hard both dogs put strike in to no avail but it succumed to Dodger at the other side of the field. they both carried it back together. another 2 bolted from here the first was caught by fly after a couple of turns and the secd ascaped as fly struck it literally jumped over the wall avoiding her snapping jaws. as we got higher up the they put a cracker up out of the reeds, this ran like a hare back and forwards with several truns avoiding death, but i just was not quick enough Dodger struk and it jinked out of his way sending him somersaulting leaving fly to make the catch, as dodger was retrieving another got up under fly and another good run and it was in the bag. we moved on to the last set as Harry had very wet feet and wanted to got home. realistically we need to net it up but its early day and we want more sport from this place, i entered to experinced jills and one youngster, they can thindering out in threes and fours so the whippets did there best to catch what they could. and as you can guess a fair few got away for next time. we got back to the disco and had a tally up 24 health rabbits in the bag so a great result. This really is great land 1000's of rabbits to go at and acres to run them on absolutly superb, im sure they will be some great action shots taken on this land over the coming season. can't wait for another visit to this place we have hardly touched the place its will deantly keep us entertained.
