Just signed up as I'm in the process (after years of thought) of getting involved with falconry. At the moment i'm building my aviary/mews and buying/begging items that i'll require once I get my Harris Hawk. I have a friend in Ripon who has had HH''s before and I'm hoping to go see an old mate this weekend as he has 2 hawks to see if I can gain some experience there! If anyone else in the Ripon, North Yorkshire area would be kind enough to help me out (teach me/hands on) with the hawks I would be very grateful.

Many thanks

Shello

ps

I live just north of Ripon near Lightwater Valley

cheers

how much land have you got and what game have you got to go at

leanr before getting a bird as only the bird will suffer ( hate the price of harris now days as this would nver happen if the birds where still 2k )

i live in the countryside and will have plenty of land to go at having spoke to local land owners/farmers etc, will have plenty of game (rabbits, ducks, pheasant etc, aint taking this lightly, considered it for a couple of years now and decided to persue my interest in it!

as for the price well the same could be said about plenty of things in life!!

what im saying it get the expericance before getting a bird not the other way around ,spend a few seasons leanring the ropes before getting a bird .far to many doing it other way round .

what i ment with the price is ,if buying a bird for 2k of ur hard earned money poeple will learn everything before getting the bird ,but vos of the low price harris are bringging peple are going out -buying a bird and then trying to learn as they go this way th bird will sffer with poor bird management not the falconry as if worse happens and it dies or flies of they just go out anf buy another cos of the low price .not saying you are this person just the way falconry has gone in general.in your post your already building the muse before gaining the knowlage and hoping to gain some tips .

have you ever been out hunting with a bird ?

have you ever had any mentoring of an expericanced falconer ?

you dont want someone that has leanred his self and had a bird for a season on to as you dont know if there doing it right and correct .for example ..a person gets his harris and gets it hunting at 1-7 and they will hold the birds weight all season at that weight cos 'the got the bird going at that so thats ts hunting weight' .then season later they do the same cos 'the bird flew at that last season .................
