So on the basis of a phone diagnosis you put the dog down. In my experience vets always give worse case scenario.....but to put a dog down on the basis of a phone conversation was premature imo. See

Done the right thing. Could spend lots of time and money all for nothing. Some folk getting pets and working dogs mixed up again.

sorry to here about the loss of the dog the same thing happened to me years ago whent to the vets with her and he told me stright that the leg was to bad that the dog will never run again and it would cost a lot of money just to put it back together then he said he could not be certain he walk on it again so i had her put to sleep i had amate has well his dog did the same thing he paid the vet a lot of money to put some plates inthe leg he said it will be okay after about six month you should have seen the mess of the dogs leg it could not stand on it never mind walk on it what awaste of money you got to be cruel to be kind good luck mate

Sorry to hear that mate.

From what I've heard about broken legs, even if you fork out the notes theres still no guarantees. Like Harry says, You've got to be cruel to be kind sometimes. I know I'd hate to be in that position but I'd also hate to see a dog hobble around in pain for months and months not knowin if it's goin to get any better.
