Shazza 52
Thinking along these same lines, i adore my dog and would be devastated if she met an early end............but...........the thought of never letting her offlead to do what she was bred for seems even more cruel imo. I would rather take the risk and run her & let her have a wonderful happy life than keep her on-lead walks and lying on the sofa bored to death. 2 Quote Link to post

Shazza 52
Maybe this dog was "the special one" that sometimes comes along and worms into your heart. If he still has other dogs he may still be too sore over losing his favourite to think about going on, or even just worried it might happen to another of his dogs. Plenty of reasons to still lose heart over running dogs. Quote Link to post

But i wouldn't pack in as i have other dogs to think about. 2 Quote Link to post

I don't know the guy, if he has other dogs or what the score is, i was just trying to think why this one hit him so hard if he has others but is thinking of packing in. I have other dogs (pets) and have lost 3 in the last 2 years to old age, each one hurts like hell and they are deeply missed but i do have a 'special dog' and would be even more devastated if anything happened to her rather than one of the others, doesn't mean i love them less just that i have a closer bond with some more than others Quote Link to post

If i lost my big dog i'd be lost as i have an older bitch and 2 up and coming pups as well but he is my main worker. I was just pointing out to the lad that if he has got another couple of dogs then hopefully he can use them to push himself on and not forget about there needs becasue he is feeling down at the moment... Shazza 52
Your right there Lab, having the other dogs has to keep you going, just because you are hurting, sick, heartbroken or whatever, you still have to go take care of them and see to thier needs. One of the reasons i'm not a single dog owner. They give you a reason to get off your backside every day. If i had just 1 and something happened to it then my life would be empty. No matter how down you may feel the greeting from a dog who worships you will lift the lowest soul Quote Link to post
scent 509
sorry to hear about your dog pal but surely you get another pup .I get the feeling you really get attatched to your dogs as most do and that you really look after them .Then why not give another pup a good home and good working life .You will be very suprised it will give you something to put your time into Quote Link to post
