MagyarAgar 88
Thanks Mag,I never thought of her as being a thing of beauty but shes my favourite companion as shes an all round bizzy body, looking and checking constantly. She knows what to do in all situations, and she never runs in on a shot.Ive watched her look at a rabbit hoping about the field after a head shot and not budge till I give her the ok,shes spoted goats and just sits till I get there, then waits till the shot and looks at me for the nod, shes even tracked deer when out with a mate.I never broke her to the gun but nothing fases her, from a 22 to a 22/250.First time she ever saw a shotty she was 9 months old.The farmer took a shot and I expected her to shit herself, not a bother.Im not boasting about her but shes everything I would like in a dog and she wont look at a stranger when Im around, loyal as the wife............ Credit to you. Is she a Kelpie grey first x? Cheers, MagyarAgar Quote Link to post

TOMO 26,070
you see i dont get this collie/kelpie cross,,, well actualy i do,,,, its all about making them merl.................how many people who have bred a colie to a kelpie, have done it without the collie being a merl??????????? now i got nowt against collie crosses,, in fact i dowt theres a great deal of difrence between collie's and kelpies,,, and if i wanted a replacement for Tara, i could quite easily go for a collie cross Quote Link to post

jigsaw 11,863
Your dogs a bit racier than mine Tomo, the whippet shows in her.I have no interest in colour Tomo.Ive rang up a few strangers off of donedeal and the likes and queried as to what their colliex's were doing in the field,,a mate has a merle dog 1st x collie/hound but not seen its talents yet.below is a dog brought in from a colliecurs member, hes 5/8 greyhound X 3/8 bearded collie(not hancock bred).Hes young yet and is very efficient on the rabbits and has a great nose.I may use him in a few years all going well. now heres my mates dog,hes a nice make of a collie x and hopefully I'll see him in action next year,we have a few days booked in together on the rabbits Edited August 12, 2011 by jigsaw Quote Link to post
Neal 1,861
doesnt neal run pure kelpies? Yes, I work three pure kelpies. I bought my first pure kelpie over eleven years ago as I was so impressed by the temperament and work ethic of a Dave Sleight bred kelpie/collie x greyhound I had at the time. My original intention was to use him to breed a replacement for the lurcher but I got on so well with him (he's the one in my avatar) that I changed my allegiance and have since stuck to pure kelpies. I don't catch anywhere near as much as most people on here do with their lurchers but I catch more than I used to with my previous lurchers. Most importantly, for me, I really enjoy working them and find they suit my character well. A lot of people regard them as very full on dogs which can't switch off but my three are all fairly chilled out. Ironically, I was talking about that very subject to a local woman just this morning who has three border collies who said the same about her dogs and we came to the conclusion that it could be either the fact that she and I just encourage our dogs to be more easy-going or alternatively that we, without realising it, tend to pick the ones like that in the litter which suit us. If I were to sum up the average kelpie I'd say they're a bit like a blend of collie and terrier but with individuals being at different points of the spectrum.
