rocky1 942
asbove says do you prefer straight x over a grey or a mix of breeds in a dog ie saluki over grey or saluki/bull/grey these are just examples ,what do you think if any pros and cons of first x 2 mixed x Quote Link to post
bird 9,946
ive had both 1xs and lurcher to lurcher, and i think you get a better type dog lurcher to lurcher.Iknow you have to start with a 1x to get a line, but you just dont know how they will throw. Even 1x to 1x will produce a differnt type dog, and most will be proven dogs by then.! Quote Link to post
Rabbiting man 1,192
I like Collie/Greyhounds but I prefer the 3/4 Greyhound 1/4 Coliie to me its a better hunter more speed, nose you still have a good rough-terrain dog with good feed and bone coat you still get stamina and once learned to hunt they can be opportunists with a gift for being in the right place at the right time to lift a squatting rabbit or long ears that gos for every lurcher that as had 100% of time put in to them Quote Link to post
Tiny 7 1,694
I prefer lurcher to lurcher breeding... Quote Link to post

Guest blitz
i,ve tried and been out with a lot of half bull xes and to be fair you do get a few good 1,s..but i.m.o there is only a few.1,s i seen were point and fire merchants.3/4 greyhound 1/4 bull again some decent dogs over the years but most had crap feet and were prone to injury ..bit to greyhoundy for my liking espially on uneven ground.we tend to favour the bull lurcher mix with a bit of everything in the line.they seem to be strong enough for all the ground we run dogs on ..i.e fells ,small fields with dry stone walls round.the dogs we run and have done for lot of years have dash of whippet in the mix .it gives them the extra gear when needed and as i have said you need the dog to suit the ground you run them on.. rocky1 942
some mixed anwsers their ,how x in a lurcher 2 think before you,ll have add the grey back into he mix ? Quote Link to post
Guest blitz
i think if your keeping your lines right and looking into the dogs backgrounds on both sides you never really have to go back to a straight greyhound etc..just adding the right blood will or should keep you on track. Casso 1,261
some mixed anwsers their ,how x in a lurcher 2 think before you,ll have add the grey back into he mix ? never,,why would you add something that isnt bred to catch,, if thats what you saying, you start from a grey 2 get the line in the first place in most cases you do but, i believe that the further you breed along that line away from the hound(,who was there in the first place because of speed and in some cases drive),when you get 2nd ans 3rd generation down the line ,the more capable the offspring will be at catching ,this is if you are breeding best to best ,like humans some dogs are more agile ,more supple, and have more ability to do things than others,if they are bred from ,the chances of the offspring been the same are greatly improved,,,so why breed from animals that were never bred to do the job in the first place??
