young terriers

Recommended Posts

Good thread scent, pity there's always someone to spoil it.We were out today and had 2 young dogs and 1 4th season dog for back up.I went to an earth that can be real easy or very awkward. The 1st young bitch,a patterdale was collered up and entered but she showed a few times so we lifted her and tried the 2nd young bitch which is sealyhamxrussellxlakey. She entered and after about 15min we located her at around 7ft,not what we expected,we left her at it for a few more minutes and then started to dig, within 5min of diging she was out and she had been with it as she had some marks on her.We tied her up and let the experienced dog go and 3hour later we opened to hom with 4 in a pocket at a dept of 8ft.The pups did well i thought as that was the 1st earth they ever seen and they both traveled.1 is 17months and the white bitch is 15months,they will both get from now untill xmass to prove there worth.

any pics mate

Sorry no pics,we were f*****g soaked to the bone, the rain never let up.

Mind the wettings Donie ye boys are getting a bit old for them.

We wont melt liam, drop of rain never killed anyone, and the young dogs have to get a look before we kick off seriously. How is the bitch, wont be long now.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN WAS EITHER EASY OR AWKWARD???? AND TAKING PUPS TO A HOME THAT CAN RUN 7 TO 8 FT....... THATS SOME JUDGEMENT FOR A TERRIERMAN FOR PUPS ON THERE FIRST EVER ..... WOULD YOU NOT WANA TAKE THEM TO SOMETHING HANDY FOR THERE FIRST LOOK SEE..... SOMETHING LIKE A FOOT OR 2 THATS NOT RANGEY....... NOT 8FT DEEP WAY 4 IN THE POT LMAO........ LOVE 2 SEE A WEE PIC OF THE BOY THAT DUG IT FATMAN

I'll accept all manner of mistakes in there first season, the only thing you shouldn't accept is out right cowardice. It's not big or clever to pts young dogs, the thing i find with most that do that

If there young put them away for a couple of months go back to the drawing board if they keep making the same mistakes review the situation ye can tell when a dogs heart is really into it and when its

Just keep taking them, there are great naturals at all sports but most of us have to learn our trade as we go along, terriers don't learn nothing sat in a dog run.

every young dog is different some fly too it first day out some need a few outings and some need a full season but as long as they make a wee bit of progress each time there out yes all young dogs suffer set back s but the genuine one s always give 100% some times its just not enough on the day but bounce back next time out . its when they get too a good stage and then start going backwards is the worring bit and its this type that usually fail too make the grade imo.

When do you start back then dealer, have you young stock to get goin, and as for young lads i dont ask anything of anyone,if someone wants to dig all year round thats up to them. Why wait till a few weeks time when everyone else is at it,then you risk puting a young dog in on something that has been dug already.

yes fatman i have two 22 month old bitches that have seen a bit of game last season but were never dug, at present i have 386 earths on my satnav as i do a little survey work for the department, i will start back terrier work in sept. regardless of all others digging i will still get digs each day i go out. i still cant stop laughing at the last sentence in your post .

If nothing else i put a smile on your face, lol good luck with your 2 bitches.

hedz 31, i dont know if your post refers to me, but if it does i can not ever recall a post written by the guy called booth that i ever read so i dont know if your insulting me or not, how ever i have heard some good and bad stories about him from his close and personal friends,i would never speak bad about anyone, but i will say some thing in his favour, a regular judge at the old badger trials told me that back in the 80s he dug with booth, and that he had the best black terriers he had ever seen on badger, i have dug and worked terriers and seen all this judges dog at the trials, if this judge ever gave anyone credit he meant it !
