Lab 10,979
Right......i dont have mains water to my house so i got an inline pump fitted to give me a decent water pressure. It has worked fine and it engages when a tap is opened or toilet is flushed(i know there is a technical term for this).....anyway this morning it wouldn't shut of and just kept turning over even though no taps were opened. Anybody have any ideas on the problem. I have recent over the summer a couple of times ran out of water and when my header tank runs dry then the pump has to work dry until the water comes through..........could this be that the pump is fooked or very near on its way out. Its only 2 years old the pump..... Thanks for any help........

tsteve9999 456
There will be a sensor on or in the pump that detects water flowing eg when you turn a tap on, it's probably this sticking thats giving you the problem. On some central heating boilers there is a flow valve that does a similar job, basically it's a little propellor that turns as water flows over it, I'm not sure if the pump you have works on the same principal but it will have something that does the same job. Malt 379
my first thoughts would be to check for a leak upstream of the pump & maybe check the toilet/boiler overflows to see if they're overflowing.
trenchfoot 4,243
turn the pump off if it is runnining without any flow. It will burn itself out. If you are not on mains water supply then it may be worth checking the in line filters on the flow in side of the pump, they can get blocked up with crud and eventually affect the switching mechanism of the pump. Good luck

Lab 10,979
I think a couple of you have pretty much nailed it, thanks. I did turn it off as i knew it would damage it. The water sometimes gets quite dirty after these heavy showers and i think your right in saying that it is sticking inside. I used the 'batter f**k out of it' method and it is working again. Cheers again ps. Christain you little bitch you've never had a dog in your life............lol
minion 29
What make of Pump is it. I would asume it is a small salamander booster pump or Stuart turner pump? There will be a flow switch on it and the can stick sometimes. I have a heating company in Ediniburgh and while we dont do plumbing sometimes we have to remove these pumps when fitting combi boilers. If you let me know the type you have I will tell the guys to keep the next once and you can have it. Cheers
