fireman 10,917
I'd just like to take this opportunity to thank the lads that sent me the pm's and as expected both dog pups went straight away,I will be testing my pup and those that come out with me and if they make the grade then I will do a repeat mating for those that were interested, thanks again, wirralman Will be interested in how these pups get on as Merlin or his sire Bear just might be in the frame for a stud next year to my bitch, good luck with them all Wirrel countryman. wirral countryman 2,110
Stormyboy,it goes with owning a plummer these days,I can be as tenacious as my dogs and do not let fools with no knowledge of the breed annoy me,in some ways you can't blame folk for having the opinion they do when you look at whats on show at country fairs,as an ignorant bystander you would not be impressed with the general standards on show, workers are in the minority but there does seem to be a movement to breed dogs of the correct size now,we just need more people willing to get them out working hard,I still see a future for a decent working line that is registered,no genetic health problems and is able to pack efficiently without mayhem breaking loose, its just a shame those at the helm of the breed don't see it that way, coat patterns and pretending to be nicey, nicey seems their bag. Fireman,I'll keep you posted on their progress, they seem to be of the right size but only time and work will tell, the severn valley lads do test them and other than Matt pinsley's "ACE" there was no other dog for me,I'd like to see matts dog worked a bit harder to see what he's capable of,he is a perfect size and looker he just needs putting through some hard, prolonged work to see what he's made of,the cost of a stud fee is also prohibitive he wanted 150pound without guarrantee to a bitch I could of owned, and this without being proven,if he was mine it would of been free to see what sort of pups he threw,it may of been different if he knew you,I have always found him a decent lad to deal with and this may also be an avenue for you to pursue, atb, wirralman Quote Link to post
fireman 10,917
I spoke to the man who used Merlin and he said about using Ace and i did hear about the stud price although the man i was speaking to NEVER moaned about it at all,i myself agree with what you say as for that price it should be proven worker and producer, shame as he could be an asset to the breed but that price will put some folk off i think. Simoman 110
I have only ever owned one Plummer, bitch out of Summerbird and Rocky, about 91 i got her, great dog above ground and ratting, never owned better, she also bolted a fair few in pipes but was never dug too, she also died young of suspected meningitis. Personally i see a lot of Plummers at shows nowdays and the are huge, up on the leg and barrel chested, nothing like the dogs i saw in the early 90's, is this a line????? Quote Link to post
Millet 4,497
I have a 13yr old dog here that used to love them and i also used to have a bitch that died at the age of 8yr she would of been 14 now..i have dug to them and bolted many more with the two dog's i have mentioned..these are the old type plummer's before the breed got messed about with in the end of the 90's..so i could not comment on the new strain of plummer's. stormyboy 1,352
pices of shit for me wouldnt have one given just my view How many have you seen at work to give such a sweeping generalization Mr Ho? You are right about one thing though-you wouldn't have one given,or bought from anyone I know. Keep up the very informative and constructive criticism, you're a credit to the terrier world. Is your spell checker broken btw? Quote Link to post
