Rat face 1,655
was just thinking today as the season starts to creep back in about getting another dog to run on with mine but with work picking up (work picks up for me in the winter time) would i really have time to train a pup and run the old dog aswell.then i was thinking well maby i could try get a good dog thats already going if i pay the right money i could be lucky an get a good dog. but would anyone really sell a dog if its doing the bizz for them or would you just be buying someones cast off? what do you guys think? hedz31 1,308
Ye always have to remember everybody has different standards in what is good in a dog ye might buy a dog of someone who thinks they are selling a decent animal to them but when ye take it out ye may be dissapointed and vice versa ye may buy a dog and think its the best thing sliced bread but other folk may beg to differ, unfortunatly theres alot of shit passed around money really did ruin the working dog scene 3 Quote Link to post

Bootsha 1,306
Mate, If I had a good dog, I wouldn't sell it for love nor money. I have bought in the past due to having an injury filled yard, but I never would again. You can get lucky and land on your feet, but you can seriously land on your arse as well. Best of luck with your quest. Regards B Quote Link to post
Guest dances
I've bought in dogs that were superb but also dogs that I felt guilty giving away as pets incase they tried to work them Quote Link to post
fieldsman 51
Give the dog a try before you buy that way you"v only yourself to blame if it turns out a donkey never part with cash unless happy with what you"v seen if they refuse a trial dont buy common sense realy. Quote Link to post
Simoman 110
In a nutshell yes people do occasionally sell very good dogs, but there is also a lot of conmen out there....... Quote Link to post
martync1967 64
id go for the pup option at least you will be able to train it at your own standards and not have to worry about buying an already working dog that may have bad faults somewhere due to lack of good training,i think anyone can and would find time to train another pup if they really want an addition to a team alb martync Edited August 9, 2011 by martync1967 Quote Link to post
stag1 3
av sold a good dog in the past but wouldnt dream of selling up now Quote Link to post
martync1967 64
dont think anyone in there right mind would sell a good dog unless they were really skint or something drastic came up and had to get rid asap Quote Link to post
willow 53
but if you show them work or on trail the person has nothing to lose ive sold some very good dogs for certain reason but allways a trail or come and see them work your eyes wont lie SO YES YOU CAN BUY A GOOD DOG Quote Link to post
ferretess 230
Yes they would ,, a few years ago I was looking for a lurcher for my laddie, mainly to do a bit of rabbiting, was offered a couple but when I said yes thanks when and where they always backed off time wasters , But one guy pm'd me and said he has a bitch he needs re homing if i was interested come and see it and have a trial if she didn't work out bring her back , Me and my lad went to visit liked what we seen and took her home he wouldn't take nothing for her said I was doing him a favor and taking dog to working home, She has well and truly proved herself, a lot more than he thought, she does what was expected off her and a lot more , So yes some people will give you / sell you a good dog in my opionion Quote Link to post
reavo2k9 20
I've been sold a donkey my self and I personally wouldnt sell a good dog I'd let one of me mates look after it or run it if times were hard , cash has f****d this game I've seen 650 paid for a dog that couldn't catch a rabbit in a telephone box , and as for a trial its hard when your say 200 miles away from the dog and if they brought it to you and you took it out with them chances are they come back and screw your land , no loyalty in this game whatsoever , atb Quote Link to post
Rabbiting man 1,191
When I lost my old Collie/Greyhound a few months back I was thinking of getting a new dog or pup im not now i.ve got a 10 month old Collie/Greyhound here that I be putting in time getting him fit for this season so I would not have time for a new dog or pup so it will be a good few years time before I get a new dog or pup Quote Link to post
