I will always have fond memories for my first real lurcher "Rocky"..i really loved tnbis dog and he taught me so much, but you know the most important thing he taught me:? never keep a dog that isnt good enough otherwise you will end up feelingsick when you are catching little....when i was younger, i could not imagine a dog being any "better" than rocky, lol, but that is the sheer innocence of youth i guess..but for a general mooching dog he was perfect..i got my first hare, roe, pheasant and fox with him and have some very good memories...my only regret is not having enough pics of him...but you live and learn...good hunting guys......JD

great post and a great subject, i can not say i have owned any truly great dogs but i have had one or two i have been happier with than others,it was more down to my messing up than the dogs why some never worked out, i try to learn from my mistakes so hopefully in the not to diustant future i mught own one worth bragging about.

some cracking stories and pictures there folks.

I was lucky to have had a couple of very capable dogs to start off with a Bedlington/Grey Dave Emmerson bred and the collie/bull pictured earlier.I didnt realise how lucky I had been until I tried to replace them, the trouble was I was making to many comparisons and a young dog just cant fill the gap your old faithfull has left behind. It took me a little while to realise this so I decided to go for something totaly different ,not so much of a running machine but more of a dog to work with the terriers, though fast enough to still have the odd night out on the lamp.So I went for a 1stx bull/grey their has been no looking back and he is fast becoming another favourite. :D
