scent 509
11 months id wait another 6 months before i let him run a fox if u want to keep him as a fox dog ffs get a grip they ready when they ready only you decide but ill say this if a dog aint started by 17mth it aint never guna be regarded as a gooden in my book id have to disagree with that iv seen lots of lurchers started at 18 to 20 months old single handed and turned into very good fox killing dogs Quote Link to post
Irish Lurcher 1,013
sweeper are u saying a dog thats not doing them by the time he s 17 month he will never be any good thats noncences i know lads that wont let ther pups see a fox till at least 18 month ,, its all right swinging out of cubs at that age but if he catches a big dirty dog fox by the arse it might be the last fox he catches , just giving u advice on experence mate All six years of experence,,lol f**k ur a gas man,,lol,, Quote Link to post
Irish Lurcher 1,013
Sweeper I won’t disagree with ur opinion, as we are all entitled to one, but, I would like to point out one fact that could piss on ur parade. I brought on a dog that never seen a fox until the age of 18 months to the week, lets just say that she contradicts your statement regarding the starting age of a fox dog. scent 509
john i took in a dog at the age of 4 that was a hare and rabbit dog and never saw a fox ,the dog is still killing them single handed on a regular basis and his age is in doble figures at this stage .Now its prob just one them things i suppose that happens once in a life time what happened with him Quote Link to post
Blue one 89
I have a lurcher bitch here, that never took fox till she was 3. before that, she would never course them, then the penny dropped when she got in on one with another dog. ! Quote Link to post
coney clucky 93
ive never tried calling fox in daylight but if they hungry enough they do out for meal ive just started my bull x pup of she had a few bunnies and had a go at bushy tail she wasnt very keen but am not that bothered just yet she only 12 month old and been out three or four times both her parents were exceptional on teeth and she got size and the temper you cant rush pups and she will do it if and when she ready time will tell Quote Link to post

"if a dog aint started by 17mth it aint never guna be regarded as a gooden in my book " that is not what i am saying this is only my opinion but for a dog to be agooden to me it has to start early there are dogs that have and always will be why settle for anything else 17 mths is plenty you leave them much longer and more often than not its 2 late by then! in my opinion the best dogs start young regards Quote Link to post

fat man 4,741
alan my other bitch took her first fox at 10 months and never looked back should be the same for the pup now she has a bad temper when she got going.as A lot depends on the size and make up of the pup in question.I had a dhxgh years back that was taking fox single handed at 9months and deer before he was year old,his litter brother went to england and he was doing the same, but as alan said its very easy to spoil a lurcher on fox ,my dog took its 1st fox while i was out mooching about. His mother was in the cover with terriers and the pup on the outside with me.The fox broke cover and the pup took chase, nothing i could do,but he done the buisness.I have seen big bullx pups sliped on fox and pay the price, not all dogs have the same drive.
