fieldsman 51
I would think twice before you let her go on rats if you have a chance of large amounts of rats i would get a dog just for rats it tends to makes them hard on every thing once they have been bit a few times I suppose it depends on what you do with your rabbits do you eat them yourself or sell them because they will be bruised after she"s been ratting.Get a Whippet x Terrier for rats it will give you loads of fun if you have plenty to go at and save your Whippet for rabbits.JMO for what its worth. Bosun11 537
If your looking for a soft mouthed dog, then don't start your dog on rats! Rabbits and rabbits-a-plenty at first, you can move on to rats or anything else that bites back in due time, your dog will know the difference by then and treat each accordingly. Quote Link to post
Guest born to run1083
like post said above as long as your whippets caught plenty of rabbits then when you move to rats he will learn the difference ,dogs arnt as thick as some people make out, as long you do things in the correct stages and right amounts 99% of the time you shouldn't have a problem Quote Link to post

As already stated start the dog on rabbits and plenty of them then introduce the dog to rats. Vixen my fawn bitch also hates rats but still retrieves rabbits live to hand. Quote Link to post
