rapidjenky 97
it was actually nice and dark lastnight so popped out with the pup. was determined to give him more of a chance this time. this is his 3rd time out on the lamp and the first twice ive just gave him 4 or 5 what i thought were very easy slips. he caught 1 both times out. the night was very still and this permission has been very quiet for the last few months due to a mixture of things, heavy mixi, 3 buzzards taking up residence, atleast 1 tawney owl, huge amount of little owls, sparrow hawks and a good amount of fox cubs this year! so there all getting easy pickings as mixi hit early and hard! plus ive been shooting as many as i could to clear the mixi as best i could. so i wasent expecting much (the farmer is over the moon and thinks im the man lol) but i was very surprised when i popped on the lamp and saw the amount that was still running around. he had 11 runs, 9 were very good runs, 2 were bad and it was my fault as they were stupid slips. alot of them were sat hedge side or close enough to not even bother walking to. he manage to pick up six! all bright eyed and mixi free, a couple of them i though had escaped but they seemed to run to cover then bust back out as hard as they went in, straight back to the waiting dog. seemed like all the rabbits i saw, from what i saw were either free from or in very early stages of mixi. dog has come on really well, dose as he is told, jumps! (which im over the moon about) and comes near enough straight back after the lamp i switched off. he has also had a couple of days ferreting and has taken well to that. his only real faults so far is he pulls up at cover (more so threw the day, he seems abit more switched on on the lamp) and he dosent seem to try as hard when there are other dogs around. oh yer he also has a little chew of the bunnys and drops them at my feet rather then give me them, which ive got to be quick as most are although chewed still alive lol. not a fantastic dog by any means but for me im very very happy with him at the moment.
