Perhaps you would share what you don't like about this.   Yes, a lot of thought and discussion did go into this to try to give a range of events in which the widest range of people could compete for

Looks like a lot of thought has went into this NOT!!! such a load of balls, was going to go but not now after reading this. A select few being taken by the hand again and stuff the rest.

Yes, a lot of thought and discussion did go into this to try to give a range of events in which the widest range of people could compete for good prizes and to try to give good value for money in terms of admission to what will be a really good Irish game fair.

It is part of an evolving programme to try to extend the opportunities for people to race their dogs like against like and to actually spread the prizes around a bit. Of course I like to have premium events like the Master Mc Grath and Five Nations with big prizes just as we have a €3,500 shotgun for the top clay prize. I make no apology for this because our ambitions for our fairs - which are much more than terriers , whippets and lurchers- is overall to match or exceed most of the prize funds at fair in the UK. We also want to encourage the opportunities for international competition on Irish soil.

You have implied we are 'pandering to the few' and I would challenge you to name any show that has as many valuable prizes spread throughout the show and racing and available to 'the many.' Or any other show organiser in Ireland or even the UK that has put as much prize money into the terrier & lurchers.

OR to suggest how you would do it better.

un reg whippet [bANNED TEXT] a joke its either a whippet or not this is to suit the few with under 23 non peds who cant win against the top under 23 but try to lick ur balls albert sence you have come on the scene you have caused more fk ups

I have been on the 'Game Fair Scene' for 34 years and introduced many of the attractions that are now standard at any show. The reason why our shows continue to grow is because of our innovation and I will not be put of introducing new events and ideas by people who are almost wholly negative.

In consultation with a wide number of people we have come up with some new classes to give people more choice. As I say this is an evolving process and we will take cognisance of all sensible suggestions for other changes. .

Why can't you come up with a positive input to the discussion and help evolve /develop the terrier, whippet and lurcher events into something that the majority of people are satisfied with and can enjoy.

I consider that the extra classes give a better chance of people being able to compete with like for like and I genuinely am genuinely stunned that by us giving extra prizes and extra opportunities for competition that people should be so negative - I cannot think that would happen in any other competitive section of our events.

Are you genuinely saying that we should only have a class for KC registered whippets?

Also prize money only encourages people to cheat.

Also prize money only encourages people to cheat.

What a poor opinion you have of your fellow enthusiasts. When you win prize money you can always as I do put it back into the organising club funds. I think good prizes encourages excellence and if I compete , win or lose, I like to compete against the best.

i can just see your ad on here for your show next year i think it will read kc whippets only at this show .

Speedie,

Can you make your point a bit clearer. We have no plans to make the whippet racing KC only as this would exclude many owners. We may refine these classifications in the future eg we would intend to possibly break the novice class down by type. BUT IF YOU WANT TO IMPLEMENT CHANGE YOU HAVE GOT TO START SOMEWHERE. THIS IS THE START OF A PROCESS NOT THE END!

As you are probably aware there were a number of views expressed on the K9 Lurcher forum about what way we should define whippets for our racing. We took account of these and other consultations when we discussed the final classification with the organising club.

Our objective was simple to try to give the widest range of competitions and to be inclusive by giving more people the opportunity to compete fairly.. We have more classifications than ever before and of course these can be changed in the future but I am amazed that people cannot welcome an evolving situation where we are trying to improve our terrier, whippet and lurcher events and try to improve it by making positive suggestions.

We had a very productive meeting with the organising club and the above is the result of quite lengthy discussions. It can be improved upon in 2012.

why change at all ? these working dog shows have been going for years fine yes there is a few people that have a moan or two but why not leave things the way they were . i know there was alot of fuss made about a dog run in the whippet race in shanes castle that afew people said was not a whippet but if you look into this abit more you will see that the person doing alot of the moaning usally wins the whippet race when that whippet/lurcher is not there . it seems to me that you have got a bit to friendly with some people and are not seeing past these people when making calls for these shows.

Albert i enjoy all your shows but i have 2 whippet that would have been registered i bothered to get them registered but my whippets are for working and for some fun in the summer showing and racing and i dont think they should be but in a separate class because i did'nt pay the kc to but their breeding on paper .i dont think the k.c has any place at these shows they might be trying to change but they have already destroyed so many working breeds and working dogs is what these shows are meant to be about.looking forward to Birr it's always a great weekend but i think it should be left the way it was

Albert sorry i have tried seveal times tonite to reply to your post but i am having network problems and only getting half of what im tryiny to say up each time and seem to be coming across all wrong and i supose my first post didnt help that much, but the kc registration thing realy upset me as it is something i am realy against but i will go into that later.I have been going to your game fairs for as long as i can rember long before i had working dogs and always give them my support i have no problem with you or them at all. Yes i agree with you that they are second to non in the country and that the effort time and money involved shows year after year and yes we do need to move forward but the fact that Mr Irwin is not running the terriers and lurchers anymore will be a great step forward on its own but i have been around the lurcher ring for many years seen lots of people come and go myself included and know the type of people who attend and you will always get one person bending the rules should it be a greyhound running as an over 23 or an under 23 in the whippet racing but bring kc registration papers into play will not eliminate this as you cannot link the dog to the paper work this is why greyhounds have ear markings and racing books. If this is the start of things to come i think you will see a big drop in numbers at the ring side if it was that easy sporting whippet would have been all kc racing by now but i think even they know its not practical for kc papers to be at working dog shows like this.
