Red Diesel and SORN question

bit of a pub dispute this.

 

 

if you have been running on white on the road and then decide to SORN your motor for a bit say to do a bit of off roading and you start using red ( no problem there) you decide to put the motor back on the road , the tank is empty of all red and you start using white again , you get pulled over by VOSA or police and they find traces of red in your filter etc where do you stand .

 

if they checked the history of the motor and they saw it was on SORN can you be nicked for it still?

My advise is to check for the answer on vosa website, or dvla, or failing that call them on the phone and ask

firstly the use of red diesel is restricted to agriculture,fishery and forestry so a bit of off roading would represent a problem and second it is rare that the plod or vosa check anything other than a tank sample and if that is white then you are ok especially if you have receipts of purchase for the diesel

i said off roading as an example but infact it is a farm vehicle , but what would the outcome be if they did find traces? i will have a look on the link now . cheers

They rarely dip tanks now anyway,, it is checked on exhaust emissions,, so if yer on white,,should be no issue,, who the hell gets stopped anyway,, unless yer usin a tractor for yer shootin !!lol

Unlicensed vehicles are not permitted to run on public roads under any circumstances. HMRC will take legal action if such a vehicle is found on public roads using red diesel. Other offences beyond the scope of HMRC responsibility may also be committed if such a vehicle runs on public roads, even if road fuel (‘white diesel’) is being used.

 

 

the above is if your using a SORN on the road so it is legal

they draw a sample from your tank,then anyalise it there and then,they can tell how much percentage of cherry red is your tank.happened to a jcb driver on a site we were on.he was told to drain the tank and clean the injectors and flush the whole system,change filter etc.he was told if he didnt he could be stopped and done again.he was also fined 8ooquid.

HMRC will tell you they can detect 1 ltr in 25000 but when we load the tankers we may have 34000 ltr of red on board and our next job is 36000 ltr of white derv but if you havent empted the foot valve completely you may have approx 5 litres of red left in the foot valve so then you load that compartment with 7500 of white and you open the foot vlve to deliver the derv its all ready contaminated with red derv and this goes on everyday of the week 52 weeks of the year so HMRC give you some leaway , but instead of SORN why not tax it agricultural then your covered all ways you can run on cherry and yu can do a max of 6 miles per week on public roads , problem sorted
