Guest lamper/gatherer
all i want is a dog to work on the lamp, theres not much around here anyhow mainly rabbits, you might if you walk far enuff see a hare or two,not that i would let the dog chase it!! Quote Link to post
tote 854
I have a mate that works at a race kennels,he gets 1st offer on the retired dogs,do they make good workers or are they better to just breed a litter of lurchers from.? This very topic was run through the CMW not so long ago if I remember correctly. All I will ask you is,what do you require/expect of your lurcher/running dog? I expect mine to hunt, jump, catch and carry,as well as being 100% safe with livestock. Must admit i've never understood why anyone would get a retired greyhound for working. tried many dogs over the last few years, but they have always been already working, thats why i got my pup but he`s a pain in the ass, Maybe there's something to be learned here Quote Link to post
Guest lamper/gatherer
the dog that is a pain is a pup that i rescued because previous owner died whip x greyhound. i expect my dogs to chase there best,if the quarry gets away its a lucky bunny,i like a dog to retreive it`s quarry dead/alive,that`s basically it try its best @ come back when called, not asking it to shit diamonds or anything Quote Link to post

swamper 11
Why dont you put some more time into training the whippet/greyhound it sounds as though he could be a handy cross for what you want. The season is practically over now so by buying in an older dog your not going to achieve much. Sorry if ive mis understod the situation. Joe some very good advice iv got a grew she was like yours....but with a bit of time and training she'll come good....cant fault um....as regards the injurys... well thay learn...and so will you as to when to slip um this is mine month at 12 month old shes been off for a another month due to injury (again) stick with it fella there outstanding if you put the the time in Quote Link to post
