Falconry VS Running Dogs.. Whats the deal?

So, People who run running dogs and people who work the falcons.... Whats really the difference? Why is Falconry widely "accepted" and recognized but the running dogs arent seen as the athletes that they are?

 

Im from the states and nobody accept the running dogs, thinks its dumb and its looked down upon.. now i know over there you guys are watched MUCH more closely then we are. But still... Why is it ok for a falcon to kill something, but not ok for a dog?

 

I will never fully understand the rules that "THEY" set for "THE PEOPLE" .. BLAH!

I think people see dogs as fluffy sweet pets not as the predators they are whereas falcons will always be seen as hunters since the ladies can't put clothes on them and do their nails.:kiss:

agree iv flown birds of prey for a good few years, harris hawk for the majority then onto the goshawk everytime i went out people would ask questions and ask for photos etc etc, but when im out with my lurchers they seem to looke down there noses at me :\

Its easy for a dick head to buy a lurcher and slip it on what ever he wants infront of whoever he wants then dump it when he gets bored. A dick head wouldnt have the dedication for a bop and would give up before causing unnessecary attention to falconers.

 

My point being theres alot more cocks running dogs that flying hawks so running dogs attract the attention of those we would rather it didnt.

I can see that ... I groom dogs for a living... and people will bring in Fluffy, Precious, Princess, baby... **EYE ROLL** and they think their dogs wouldnt hurt a fly... but dang it.. those are the ones that BITE the crap out of me!!

 

If people werent so blinded by how they THINK things are... it would help..

Dont they realize that these dogs USED to HUNT for their food??

People ask me dumb questions and make dumb comments like .. call me a bad person for **MAKING** my dog do these things... i dont **MAKE** my dog do anything... anyone that knows anything about anything would KNOW that i can not MAKE these dogs chase game.... they enjoy it... its fun to them... so they do it

I think falconry is looked at as a more upper class sport where lurchers are traditionally the working dog of the working class..

you only have to look at the countrywide bodies in this country take the cla biggesrt countryside show in the world no lurchers or terriers show . read the countryside alliance pamphlets never a mention or photograph of lurcherwork or coursing says it all really .and this was before the ban never mind after .

falconry was once the sport of kings and lurchers the scurge of the kings royal game parks nowts realy changed hawks and their owners get permmision 100 times more easy than the lurcher lads and as i keep both lurchers and harris hawks i see it first hand and have got permmision with hawks and not got a hope of running me dogs on land even though land owner is great and knows me well he said it will upset is farm mates

why??? if i had the choice of sleeping on me own in a kennel mid-winter or in a nice, warm double bed with a pretty young lady, who wants me to lick her all night, i no what id choose

its just as easy to get birds now mate, you can pick em for free if you no the right/wrong people!! and tbh looking after a fit, working lurcher takes more dedication than any BOP

lol Very true!... Most all my dogs sleep in the kennel... unless its a cold lonely night... and i want some company... then i bring a couple in to sleep in bed ... but generally .. on the cold nights.. i have been out WITH the dogs... and they are covered in blood.. thats where i draw the line... "Fluffy" wont be sleeping in MY bed lookin like THAT!
