tia.kins 56
I headed out nice and early today to go and do the Sunday routine......dogs, warm clothes, camera and big flask up on one of the Tors.... I really enjoy the peace and quiet and sense of being alone with the dogs. It was a bit misty, and a little sticky, but the higher you went, the fresher it got....and in no time i was enjoying an early morning caffine hit with the wind to my back, whilst the dogs knocked around the rocky outcrops that sometimes provide some sport. The ground was still covered in dew.....and the dogs seemed to be enjoying the scents....whilst i sipped away and took some snaps. As the land warmed, we ventued to the lower hunting ground, still untouched by anything other than the sheep and cattle, and the dogs had a good stretch, with flyn having a couple of half chances...but nothing too exciting. I think i saw my first mixy rabbit.....it was sitting tall, and eventually bolted - so i am hoping it is recovering from the mixy strain rather than fading towards a sad ending. I didnt see any skeletal remains knocking around as you usually do when mixy hits hard, but there are alot of fox cubs about too, so i should imagine they are clearing up any remains as fast as they fall. Regardless, a pleasant mornings exercise and plenty of pics of Roxy as a puppy update. They are all on the slide show below and i have put up some of the ones I particularly liked. Roxy is coming up to 19 weeks old. I am pleased with her. She doesnt appear overly complicated as some collie types do, and she is currently more concerned about me, and Flyn, than causing me trouble. She will venture off in pursuit of flyn as he hunts up the ferns, but once she realises i am out of site, she hurtles back my way, often leaping her path clear of the ferns She is probaly missing a few chances on some rabbits becuase of this, but hey, she is young and i am pleased she is focused on me at the minute. I have made her hang around by some warrnes that i have seen rabbits enter. On the moors, it is very easy to hear the rabbits knocking below ground as they move about....a great training aid, and it certainly keeps her interest.......ears and scent wise She also flushed her first moorland rabbit from its seat on friday evening....maybe by acident....but when it got up, she froze... and watched it's white ass flee to safety As i said, i like her character, however, she has recently sussed that returning to the car after a walk, means a journey home, and the pup that used to fly into the back of the 4x4 at the command "get in".....now skulks away, and pretends to be looking else where and doing her best to inspect every stone, plant or tree in the vacinity.....in order to avoid the prospect of being back at home........... .....pups hey! http://smg.photobuck...mview=slideshow Click above link for slide show. Essential kit Looked like Mixy around the eyes...?? Is it me.....or is my Pup turning Pink????????????? Quote Link to post
