Coneytrappr 30
My tips: -Pick a pup out of a litter from dogs that are doing what you want yours to do. The mix of breeds doesn't matter so much, just find dogs that do what you like. -Spend plenty of time bonding with the pup and letting it be a pup. This I feel is important as it is easy to have high expectations and be too hard on a pup. -Introduce it to ferrets straight away. I like to let pup and ferrets share a bowl of milk, good easy introduction to each other. -It doesn't have to be kennelled to be a good worker. So if you would rather have it inside with your staffs then that is totally fine, it won't make it less of a worker at all. -Also fine to let it run with other dogs, just put in the time to get good recall/obediance and it will be fine. -Enter it into the game nice and slow. Lot's of dogs get ruined by lads throwing them in the deep end...a little patience now can have big rewards later. Basically...find a well bred pup, bond, socialise, house, train it like you would any dog, enter it sensibly and you should have a working companion that will fit into your life well. 1 Quote Link to post
newcomer88 86
cheers mate thats well handy makes it sound pretty easy when you put it like that , so really just trat them like any other dog i suppose ? with regards to my kennels will it be fine to go out straight away ? or shud it be indoors for a while ? (misses wont allow to be in 24/7) what age do u suggest introducing game ? Quote Link to post
Coneytrappr 30
Yeah mate, it's best not to over complicate it. They are like other dogs and enjoy your company, want to play, want to spend time with you etc. The only difference really is what it will do when working. I treat mine as pets when they aren't actively doing their job and I reckon this helps with having a good bond when out in the field. I like to have pups in for a while but that's just personal preference, again for that bonding and socialisation. Your misses won't mind once she plays with it abit. I get pups out in the field ASAP, not seeing any game but just getting used to the ground and learning how to run/dodge etc. It smartens them up to their environment. Around 8 months is a great time to get them out ferreting and teaching them how to act around nets etc, let them hold netted rabbits or even have an easy run on one, especially if it's out in the middle of a field with no cover where pup is bound to catch it...good way to build confidence. For stuff with teeth it was always best to wait longer, around 16-18 months was popular. Being on the receiving end of teeth can put a pup off so best to wait until there's a bit of maturity. 1 Quote Link to post
Guest dances
Bedlington/ greyhound pup or something similar. A pup that should make around 24-25 would be a good idea. You asked about dog or bitch. From my own expierence bitches are easier to train but take longer to hit there prime, bitches hit there best at 4-5 yet dogs are abit harder but seem keener to hunt/work at hit good at 2-3. Also dogs in general are better on the red ones. Before anyone says anything I'm not including bullxs into that and I'm talking in general chat shit mate ,Also dogs in general are better on the red ones ? and you talk like you no it all haha utter bollocks cotton seen better bitches than dogs so not in general dogs are better than bitches on the red uns I found dogs to be better on them as a rule, I said I'm talking from personal expierience not just have a guess like you, ya pot licking c**t Quote Link to post

Dancing Dog 10
Hey mate, the breeding of the pup's you were speaking to the fella about would be ideal, so long as both the parents are good workers then the pups would be pretty good i would imagine. All the best and good luck, Dancing Dog Quote Link to post
