if i had another dog that wasn't scared of sheep id walk the dogs through the sheep field walking towards the sheep once he/she sees the sheep run away they build there confidence up walk few empty fields and back again just keep trying it might take ten times hope helps and gives you some thing to try at least

all the best

Got 2500 sheep always a worry dog chasing them well done for asking

I normally introduce as early as possible long length of rope with a choker when he goes to run after them yank him back and say you naughty boy or words to that effect, :censored: do this a few times he will soon learn some people use shock collars I will only use them on adult dogs.

for starters you should of introduced your dog alot earlier than 6 months old ....i walked mine threw livesstock as soon as he had his jabs ....12 weeks old ....and did so until he took no intrest at all ...giving him the odd stern word and a clip round the ear if he did take an intrest....its a bad time to take him now with it being lambing season ..but if you no any farmers ask them if you can take your dog threw his sheep...they somtimes have some rams seperate ask him if you can walk it with them ......if he goes for them give the dog a ferm command and a good slap on the backside....people tell me you shouldnt slap a dog ...bullshit ...if they need a slap give it one ,,it might save its life in the future... iam not talking about beating the fuxxer up just a good firm slap on the ass....some dogs dont need a slap and learn with a stern command ....and some dont ....you need to sort it out one way or another...doing this regular is whats needed....all the best...

would have introduced him earlier, but didnt get him til he was 4 month, last owner passed away @ pup was due to be put down, not many sheep around my neck ` o`the woods, but walk him past them daily just to try getting him used to them/some people have said about putting him in a pen with a ram @ letting him get smacked a few times, anyone heard of this.?

sorry read it wrong thought you had said your dog was scared of sheep

what id do in this situation

id walk the dog in the field with the sheep and give him a yank on the lead every time and shout no or bad lad until he stops if he still isn't listening boot and a yank you've got to get the dog to fear you more than his instinct to chase sheep he noses hes gonna get a scolding or boot once he starts walking at your side with out going for the sheep then id walk him again with a longer lead cos once you've broken him on the normal lead he will be looking at you slyly looking at he sheep so the longer lead to let him think hes more control if he goes for one again ban ton of bricks on his head i am a bit rough with my dogs when it comes to sheep but believe me I've not had a dog i haven't broken and every dog Ive had i can walk through a sheep field on no lead

i once had a lurcher broken it to sheep 2 months later of walking through sheep fields goes over a mound laid down 4 sheep startled there off which startled the dog he was off grabbed one around the throat i grabbed him by the collar punched him straight in the head and gave him some right boots he never chased another sheep again when we came to a sheep field he'd walk closer to me mental

putting him in with a ram is risky it can send them one way or the other ..i no people who have used this method and it has worked ..and i know some what hasnt it made the dog fecking hate them and it wanted to rip them apart when it was older...the best way is paitence and be firm like some one said earlier a long line is usefull .give it a yank and a sten word it will click soon enough... if it dosent after trying this day in day out for quiet a while dont give up on the dog it will come good ......if all else fails ...go norweb.... ;)

Its all very well having the dog fear you more than than his desire to chase sheep, but what if yua re out of sight, over a hill or something? Let's say he's coming back from chasing a rabbit and a sheep crosses his path and he's all fired up from the chase: somehow I don't think it' ll be enough. Though of course it does depend on the dog.

IMO a shock collar, alththough drastic, is the only sure way to make sure he NEVER wants to chase them: he needs to associate the act of chasing the sheep with a shock that has nothing to do with you. It's a last resort of course, but better than having dead sheep and an ultimately dead dog.

Whatever you do break him to sheep if he is kept as a pet and comes accross them by accident ,will cost you lots of grief.

If you are going to hit a dog hit it only with a rolled up paper wont hurt them but it scares the shit out of them.

A greyhound is a very sensitive type of dog anyway a good bollocking will be punishment enough, had a greyhound bitch once and as someone quite rightly said this is the worse time of year lambs look a lot better target than a great big ewe, this bitch took off after a lamb luckilly enough it ran back towards me with her in hot pursuit, she dropped to the floor was strating to rag it when I got to her,no damage done put her on the lead and rollocked hell out of her, took her back to the field the next day had to drag her through the gate to where the ewes and lambs were.

Putting a dog in with a ram in my opinion rarely works and the ram could kill the dog in an enclosed space or seriously damage him.

Try him on a short lead with a choker then a longer lead or rope and do this over a period of weeks, sounds like you have got a very keen six month old pup there sounds like he will be worth a bit of your time in the long run.

Dont sell him on or give him away someone done that to a mate without telling him,the first night out with him done a ewe in front of the farmer lost my mate 500 acres of top ground. :censored:

i'd follow this advise, sheep are a no no, a good hiding will save alot of grief later. walking with a fully stocktrained dog around a mob will help too, soon as pup shows a bit of intrests a verbal warning will bring the older dog into line and the pup will sense the other dogs distaste of anything sheep, he will chase at some point, all pups will, a long cord and check chain will help for that first time or two. [bANNED TEXT] ever you do try not to act too concerned when you pass by livestock, the pup will be all eyes and ears and will pick up on your change of mood, be calm.
