Anyone ever taken something apart to save money but wished they had'nt ?

I tried taking the speedometer apart on my old Sunbeam Alpine when the needle was bouncing all over the place, I got as far as removing the dial, there was a hairspring attached to the dial and the needle shaft :( , when I pulled the dial away, the flat spring ended up like the coil spring of a land rover :icon_eek:

I jumped on that speedo for a full tem minutes, there wasn't a lot left of it  , the Alpine wasn't a very common car and had been obsolete for a few years but luckily, I managed to acquire another one :toast:

Cheers, John :D
