undisputed 1,664
Theres just as much piss written about big dogs. Some dog men are like anglers and never let the truth get in the way of a good story. Quote Link to post

Stabs 3
I've had small dogs that have served me very well but I've also had(have) biggish dogs that serve me well too. I used to have a Wheaten cross bitch that despite being a slow starter in some people's eyes was an absolute pearler when she was working. She was 20/21 inch and as hard as you'd get. Smart too, and she often accompanied me with the shotgun and was a great little retriever. Could she work the quarry that I run these days? No. So I keep a bigger dog. The youngster I run these days is a fair old lump and he needs to be. Take the blinkers off. Run the dogs that you want to and extend that courtesy to other lurcher owners. Quote Link to post
watchman 256
The most versatile size would be between 23 to 25 imho............a dog 20 or under will limit your options, especially as a first dog as your hunting may change. A bigger (be that height or weight) dog of the right sort will overall be more humane on certain quarry, again jmho. There is no "shame" in owning a small dog or a big dog if you have them for the right reasons......its these idiots that say they take hundreds of fallow bucks with 20 inch dogs that cause the nonsense..........we know its bollocks and they know it bollocks. If they had said, these are handy little tools on bunnies I would say fair play, but they seem to get the hawkers disease, you know, where they say their buzzard can take a mountain lion, that sort of nonsense. As long as you keep a dog to suit yourself and your hunting and its good at its job, who gives a f**k...... thats good enough for me Quote Link to post
