jf1970 328
i have recently sourced tripe for sale, i was wondering if any of you feed your dogs this, if so when (summer, winter or all year round) how much and how often, i have a whippet x and i am going to start feeding her tripe as part of a balanced diet along with venison, chicken, rabbit, sprats and gain28, would appreciate your thoughts on this, cheers......john
Country Joe 1,411
Remember, when feeding Pups the protein is only 15.1 percent with Fat 11.7 so better mixing with Beef or Chicken, as has been mentioned, some added is good for picky eaters, as most Dogs cant resit it, especially the green smelly stuff. martin 332
As a small part of the diet is fine, but, tripe is virtually all water and as such has very little if any nutritional value, but as a fillip it is ok.Green is better than bleached. Martin
skycat 6,173
Tripe may contain a lot of water, but the strange thing is that dogs seem to do really well on it. I've known people who feed mostly tripe, a bit of cereal and a few bones and their dogs were great. I believe that the dog's system is designed to extract the maximum of nutrition from raw, fresh things, and even though tripe may be way down the list in terms of protein content, it does also contain a lot of trace elements and minerals etc. Fresh is best is a motto I firmly believe in. Sadly, the tripe you can buy, ready minced, and also washed to extinction, does contain a lot more water than whole unwashed tripe which is virtually impossible to buy these days. Plenty over here in ireland, raw and very fresh, if you know where to look. good feed for dogs, especially when mixed with gain 28. i would not give just tripe though, would add rabbit, beef ect to it, or gain 28.
