ALl of my ferrets are pretty friendly, if there is nothing much going on they will make a line for me, and all of them enjoy having a bit of a fuss and tickle.

But there are three that are different.

My best working jill, has absolutely no desire for any kind of affection. SHe never bites, but when you pick her up she just keeps twisting and turning, her legs windmilling to get don and get on. As soon as she hits the floor she is casting about for scent and will head off at high speed following it, i have to jog to keep up with her. If i dropped her in the woods, she would f**k off quite happily hunting the nearest bunny.

And polar opposite, i have a youngish poley hob, that will come from the far side of the garden/field to a whistle, and will, bound (not trot, or slink), like a dog, at high speed toward me, and will follow me everywhere, trying to get into my wellies as i'm walking, and generally making a nuisance of himself.

And i have a poley jill, that will climb stuff, so that she is head height and then make a leap for my shoulders, and will happily spend the day riding about on my head or shoulder, watching the world. Funnily enough her mum does the exact same. But neither will follow your feet.

All these ferrets are treated the exact same, and so i can only surmise that it is just down to the ferrets individual personality.

So i guess its quite a common thing then?

its good how they can become so well trained for such humble animals. whenever i tell anybody about him they dont seem to beleive me and everyone seems to think that ferrets are 'stupid' animals..

just goes to show how little people have the time for these amazing animals, both as workers and pets!

They definitely ain't stupid, they are underestimated as pets aswell. I've always had them even when I didn't go ferreting, proper entertaining little things.

My Jill who is a great worker doesn't care for affection much as if shes in work mode 24/7, but my Hob who if im honest is a bit lazy loves a cuddle and will follow me when out. Probably because he wants me to pick

Him up lol

I've got a 8 and a half week old ferret which ive had for just over two weeks.

he gets quite a bit of attention(as do my other 3 jills), but this one is different.

as soon as you i go into the back garden he comes straight to the cage door and makes his little ferret noises. he loves to be handled and plays with both people and the other ferrets well. bit of a nibbler but he doesnt bite, he just sorta grabs, but it doesnt hurt.

now heres the weird bit...

i took him out the front when i was putting the bins out and placed him on the floor.. and to my supprise, he followed me. so i walked a little further, and again he followed. now i can walk for ages with him and with a little whistle he runs straight to the feet ready to be picked up.

the other ferrets i have just seem to wander about and explore, but he does exactly what he's told haha.

anybody else experienced this?

I'd get on the phone to Simon Cowell right away........ :bye:

My Jill buggers off through my back fence Into the wheat field where I have no chance of finding her. I wait a few minutes and then shout and whistle and I can hear the rustling a good 15-20 yards out and then she appears back through the fence. One of my hobs went through the fence today and I couldn't find him so had to get the dog, luckily she found him. He was making his getaway

my ferret follows me all the time but its evan more clever as if it gets a rabbit down the hole it will bring it up to you then will go back down the hole to bolt the rabbits out again

Hamsters and Goldfish are the easiest way of getting over to childern Children that nothing lives forever.

They do have their uses, when they die you feed them to the ferrets.
